A question of summons and Fleshsmithing

I want to know how many zombies you can actually make total. I know for other spells specific to a type of critter the max is equivalent to what the description says* but there's no such lettering for the undead in this case. I would be a fool to not just simply ask even though I presume that there's either A) no limit or B) a limit that's high enough I wouldn't ever really attain it except in a monster zoo. A large monster zoo.

*Exception to this rule seems to be when summoning Diggles (Release the Hounds) as I oft get 5 or 6 or so but never more from repetitive castings even if not surrounded.

lol, I feel like I asked a stupid question or something. I guess sometimes no answer is an answer too.

It is a good question. One that I've wondered myself. I don't know the answer.

I actually haven't played with this skill tree to any extent since the last patch. For that matter, I'm not much of a fan of pet master gameplay, so I don't know enough about the summoning skills to really say how its different... I may have time to look into it some.

Casting a summon spell, any summon spell, desummons anything else you summoned.

So, at most, you can have 9 zombys at once.

There is one problem with that assertion: In my experience it isn't true. I have cast the spell multiple times with zombies following me or even zombies killing those before me and then cast the spell creating new zombies along the old ones. As I've been fleshsmithing all day to find out if I like it or not ( which sadly I do not really despite all the meatshield awesome ) either my game is bugged or your assertion isn't the case.

Let us not worry about it I guess; I've managed over 12 so ... [shrug] But they are just zombies, little buggers that get no better and deserve no particular mention. The spell is completely useless past level 4 anyway.

DoDgirl is correct - this has changed from the way it was. It is now totally possible to have multiple summons active at once. Summon a moustache & slime & Zombys!

I'm not sure what the limits are - but I've never had more than 4 Zombys pop up from a single cast. And when I have a few out already, I tend to only get 2. I haven't pushed those limits very strongly - since for my purposes a couple Zombys are more than enough.

Interesting... I may build a summon focused character to test the limits of this new development. I'll post here again if I get some interesting results.

That's odd, because not two days ago I summoned a mustache and lost all my Zombys in the process.

If I remember correctly, being able to summon more than one zomby at a time is actually unintended. It's supposed to only be one.

I can't imagine that could be true. Why would the "summon zomby from corpse" spell be an AoE if it was only meant to summon one?

I don't know, that's just what someone said when we were beta testing 1.10 in IRC. i could be wrong. :p

I think what was actually meant was that when you recast it makes the previous zombys go poof and summons new ones.

Fleshsmithing is one of my favorite level 1 skills these days, and I can say with certainty that summoning new Zombys does not, in general, get rid of old Zombys.

Actually - I'll test right now to see if there is a numerical limit!

    Ok, interesting results.

If I summon Zombys - more and more appear, up to 8 or 9 (it's hard to track exactly with that many on screen). If I summon a zomby when I am at this limit - all of them disappear except for the one (or group) just summoned.

If I summon a slime when I have Zombys out, all the Zombys disappear. (also any slime I already have out will disappear).

Ok, got the mustache as well.

Summoning a mustache destroys my slime and zombys.

Summoning Zombys such that my total # exceeds 8 destroys all my current summons before summoning more.

Summoning a slime destroys all my current summons.

So it looks like the logic is this: summoning a monster destroys all your current summons UNLESS:

1 - You are summoning Zombys
    AND
2 - The total number of Zombys after summoning will be 8 or less.

In some cases you can have multiple summons - I've certainly done it by going up and down stars. So maybe stairs breaks your connection to your pets? I've also had my pets stop drawing aggro after going up and down stairs a few times. But quick experiments going up and down stairs seems to indicate that summoning a pet on DL2 destroys all pets on DL1...
