How about some items that have to be crafted? I love to craft things and with the introduction of the latest DLC there is a lot more clockwork fun to be had, however crafting still suffers from late game scaling due to all of the coolest stuff showing up on the floor eventually.

So, I would suggest that perhaps some items be craftable only. This needn't include any already implemented items (though there is room for toying around there), but with the addition of all the nifty crafty skills in YHTNTEP and fun craft items such as Krong's Hammer there's some interesting design room up above 8 :smithing::tinkerer::alchemy::wand_burn:.

As it stands any character investing over 6 or 7 points is wasting points.

The trick would be in adding items that offset the investment of large amounts of crafting without breaking game balance.

Possible super items for characters with very high values in multiple crafting skills? I.E. requiring reagents from multiple craft skills. (Staff of Godewijin + Serpentine Platemail + Wand of Laser = Cyber Samurai Armor, complete with neon sign for a banner) Recipes that unlock after you've hit some coveted, magical craft number? in multiple craft skills?

Eight piece staff made entirely from Flashy Staffs of Godewijin? Yes eight of them, it's not like acquiring that many will be a problem.

I'm rambling again... but there's room to play around up there. Think about it.

I think the ones to get with 8 crafting skills should be either usable items (alchemy, wandcrafting, possibly tinkering), throwables (tinkering, alchemy, perhaps smithing), or equipment modifiers (tinkering, perhaps wandcrafting) which we'll get in the next expansion. Occasional crafting-8 equipment might be there, but it shouldn't be something for people to base their builds on, so it's better if most high-end crafting stuff is one-use, so that you'd be able to use it to support yourself, but won't find your bottom dead because you counted on getting a recipe for that particular crafting-8 weapon/armour and withheld creating things for yourself.

    But the idea is good.

I was hoping that your crafting skill would limit the number of crusts you could put on an item. So 8:smithing: means you can put up to 8 crusts on your items - that makes each point valuable!
