Audio Output Selection

Perhaps it is already implemented (so feel free to tell me how) but I would like to have a way to say "I want to use device X" for audio output.

I often play netflix on the TV for my son while I enjoy some DoD, and I would prefer to hear the audio rather than have to mute it in order to not have them playing over the TV.

The audio output is more related to your OS (operating system) than the game itself; you could make another audio device the "default device" and route it that way. Or get some headphones(?).

I use headphones late at night, so the game doesn't disturb the neighbors (thin walls).

I have multiple audio out. The problem is, DoD streams to "default", so does Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox. Since there is no stand-alone player that allows me to select what device to output to, the only way to play netflix content is to use the "default" stream. So, what this means is that if my son watches netflix off the TV I have connected to my PC, he will either hear the sounds of DoD or I play without sound.

If there was a selector to say "output to device x" then I'd be able to do it. I fear that it is far more feasible to ask the glorious gaslamp programmers to implement this than to ask a company who's trademark the last year has been to alienate and annoy customers.

    But, here's to hoping!

I have heard that the software program Virtual Audio Cables can help change outputs. Never used them myself so I am just throwing that out there as something you might want to look into.

This gets touted quite often, but is not exactly what I need. There is a program called Indie Volume (or something along those lines) that does exactly what I want it to, but it does not function with windows 7 even though it says it does.

I'll give VAC another look just in case though. It has been a couple of months now since I last checked it out. Still, I would prefer a native selector over a third party option that would require additional memory and processor time to function.

Edit: I have installed VAC - and, unless I am missing something, I am not able to direct DoD through one set of speakers while I direct the sound for Internet Explorer, Firefox or Chrome through another because they all use the "default" stream - which would be VAC, which does not allow me to identify and separate which device a specific program would use.

So I would either need to be able to assign IE, Firefox or Chrome to the HDMI, while setting all others to a default speaker (including DoD) or I would need to set DoD to the speaker and let the browsers stream to the default. The problem is none of them really provide a way to do this easily and I cannot find an extension on the browsers to do it, and this is not something that could simply be modded into the game.
