Auto-use items in the pocket dimension (crafting)

The pocket dimension is a pretty nice addition for giving you a space to craft. But even fairly early in the game I'm still finding it tedious to organize my items on the ground and go around picking them up to craft. So I suggest that the crafting interface uses the items in the pocket dimension as basically an extension of your inventory (alternatively, you could make a cupboard to store crafting items in and use that).

It would simplify things quite a bit, and make crafting more enjoyable. Plus I think it would make it more likely to use more of the crafting recipes. As it is, I usually just make the top tier items (easy enough to level up fast), and skip traps, wands, potions, and other utility items. Just show a tally of the items owned in the crafting/encrusting interface as a small number on the icon, and people could see that they can afford a few traps and quickly make them.

In order to balance it, and still give a reason for people to go to the pocket dimension, you may want to make crafting take a round for each item made/encrusted. I think that would fill the role of the current timer to keep people from easily filling up in the most dangerous situations without planning ahead.

  2. I think if you were going to do something like this, you'd probably make the pocket dimension's floor count for craft supplies only when you're IN the pocket dimension.

I believe one of the homepage blog posts addressed this as a design decision; theoretically you can "solve" any obstacle in the game with the right item, hence the pocket dimension access cooldown being what it is. (I'd link, but this device is a pain for posting such things.)

It's also why the inventory has slots rather than being an unlimited list.

  4. Yeah in this post.

Hence why I think while it's definitely good to clean up the pocket dimension user interface--'cause annoying interface isn't particularly the fun sort of game play--it's probably NOT good to let you access it at will.

The way I see it is that we already have the unlimited floor space (only really limited by walking and how organized you want to keep things). And the only time the cooldown matters is if anything is around. Even then you can usually run in circles. That's why I mentioned having crafting actually take rounds to accomplish.

But in either case, I wouldn't mind hopping into the pocket dimension to do the crafting. Right now I just set up my piles by category in the order that they're set automatically in the inventory. It just takes a few minutes and a lot of clicks to dump all my stuff on the ground, or swap it around for actual crafting.
