From the moment I saw the description of the ML capstone, I figured there must be some brokenly overpowered build that abuses it. I've yet to discover one though. What are people's favorite cooldowns to reset with ML? I was thinking the following things might work: Blood Magic capstone IF you had a way to clear the debuff Toxic Canister from RS CotSB from CK (but ML doesn't really fit in a melee build well) Manacalypse (I have no idea how hard that hits, never played Warlock)
Blast Vortex (or how it's called) from RS, too. Scepticism from Investigator Diggleform (!) These came to my mind.
I could actually see Magical Law fitting into a Warrior build to shut down Dredmor (because every warrior build needs a way to do that).
Huh? Magical Law is a fantastic anti-mage tree for a melee build. I'm getting so much use out of Gag Order and Rune of Objection on my Dual Wield Polearm guy. I haven't used Writ of Reflection yet, but I bet that'll help out a bunch too. And if I had any skills I wanted to use repeatedly, you can bet that I would use Wright's Irrefutable Argument! The only letdown is Polymorphic Injunction, but eh, they can't all be winners, right?
Polymorphic Injunction looks awesome for those corrupting rust monsters. Stupid stupid corruption monsters
As a warrior, I get more damage out of Gag Order. ...Although I just forgot that it transforms monsters. Derrp.
Yeah, I'm in the midst of a Piracy playthrough now and I admit that having Swashbuckling on demand would be amazing. I guess I could see ML working in warrior builds....I suppose I was thinking that the mana costs would be high relative to total mana for warriors but it isn't like anything in ML gets spammed, it is all situational utility.
I'm running a build that's warrior with a bit of rogue, so I get a fair amount of savvy. All of the mana costs are reasonable, I just can't spam Gag Order or Polymorphic. But that's alright, Polymorphic doesn't need to be used very often, and if I'm facing a bunch of casters, I can just use Writ of Reflection instead. It really is a fantastic support tree for Warriors, because all of the skills are used for utility as opposed to straight up damage.
Magical Law will work TOO well in a rogue build. Gag order is very OP. It not only silences an enemy (eliminating all long range attacks) it also does a tremendous amount of asphxiative damage on the cheap. It's already OP for mages given that Injunction can transform enemies into ones that are vulnerable to asphyx, but what makes it REALLY OP for rogues is that Gag Order's power is based on Savy, not magic power. So it's just as powerful for Rogue as it is for a Mage. (A rogue will have less mana, but it's a cheap spell and cost is also based on Savy.) As for Wrights argument. It would pair well with anything in Rogue Scientist. I made a warlock build just to pair with it, but am waiting for some arcane capacitor fixes. (Rune of objection means you can break your capacitor and then make someone else blow up.) Looking forward to spaming manaclypse. Wright's is great with any time consuming skills though. e.g. retranslating with Archeology, transmuting with Potions, or especially xenochemistry with Skepticisim (just so long as you keep your level 0 skill on cool down too so you don't DOT yourself). Not bad with lasers and perception or burglery tree either of course.
How hard DOES that hit, by the way? Never tried a Warlock. Also, can Big D and Vlad Digula be petrified? If yes, petrify spam with ML + BG could be incredible for making those two dangerous fights trivial. I just found out the hard way that Vlad hits HARD. I got crit for 100+ *through a block*, WITH Hedge up. Yowza. He also has insane ignore dodge, so my normally untouchable 85+ counter 35+ dodge character got hit. He got hit into next year.
Hate to engage in thread necronomeconomics, but this is false. Petrify spam with magical law can absolutely be abused, even on Vlad and Dredmor. It's how I got my Vlad kill.
You can't do some things to Vlad/Dredmor but definitely you can gag them. Petrify as well, it isn't the same as paralyze/stun. Also, 2 mirror shields, or 1 mirror shield + writ of counterspell is nice for those times you just have to walk into a zoo with tons of caster mobs. That's one thing that made me a little wary of relying on 100 counter. Crits go past dodge and counter. And even if you block, damage still gets through and that can seriously ruin you. Considering how thrown weapons work, I wondered what would happen if you pushed your crit chance to 100% with a massively over-encrusted weapon that you never actually use.
