Toying around with the idea of a pure mage tree. Kind of like Radiant Wizard. Here's what I have so far: Lv0: -1,,, +1, , Fire: 4-.1 min 2 , missile attack, deals (2+.2) damage to a single target Lv1: -3,,, +3, , Ice: 12-.2 min 6 , target square, deals (4+.4) damage in a 3x3 cross lv 2: -5,,, +5, , -10, +1 Thunder: 36-.3 min 18 , target square, deals (8+.8) damage in a 3x3 square lv3: -10,,, -30, , +5,,, +10, +1, Bio: 48-.4 min 36. Target square, deals (6+.6) damage in a 3x3 square, everyone hit gets the poisoned debuff, which deals another .1 each turn for 10 turns. lv4: -50,,,,, ,+10, +1 Death: 60-.2 min 30. missile attack, 999 damage to target monster. Doesn't effect undead, Dredmore, Brax, or Vlad Digula. Lv 5: -20, +10 +1, Dark Holy: 60-.1, min 48. Target square, deals (10+) damage to a rough circle of diameter 5 (template 99) Lv6: -50, +50, cast Death on any creature you hit in combat Total: -19,, -20 -50,,,, -80 -90 +4 +14, , +19 +30 +50 So, how horribly unbalanced is it?
Uh. It's basically a really bad skill tree. You'd be forced to run it with MT, LW, BM Burglary and Killer Vegan, with 1 slot left to be a level 1 carry or something like alchemy / fungal for get out of jail free, or maybe war weaver if you can deal with mana issues in exchange for mad MP. So, yeah, you walk around with super low HP and defences, but you can literally obliterate enemies with any of your skills.
Umm...a lot of those numbers are really, really big. Just for reference, you'll LOSE 2 HP for taking level 2, LOSE 8 HP for taking level 3, and LOSE18 HP for taking level 4. So your HP will go something like this: level 1: 19 level 2: 17 level 3: 9 level 4: you actually die. Now, that may be intended as a way to keep players from charging right up the skilltree, but it's going to literally result in players running around with single-digit HP on DL 4. That may or may not be technically "balanced", but I don't think it's good design. NOW, That Said, I really like the idea of a Black Mage skilltree. It does need a "Hadouken" spell in there somewhere, though.
So you're saying more less ? If you have 0 and 0, that's still 5 life. That plus the life gains from the tree means you should never drop bellow a max of 24, plus any other passive life boosts from other trees. In fact, the tree only takes 19 life total, and won't even take that much until you've got 19 and 19 (so level 12 if you're using only wizard skills, sooner if you toss in a few warrior or rogues). Unless you can have negative and , which would be a problem. I'll put it at lv6. The death thing was more of a joke than anything (like you'll hit anything in combat with -90)
