Blood sucker (passive level 1 skill on vampirism) has suddenly stopped working! I played through level 1 with everything working fine (at least I didn't notice if it didn't). On level 2 though, it has bugged out, and my only way of getting life back is using Drinker of the Dead, which really makes the game impossible. I'm attaching my savegame...
Vampirism's first skill only works on certain taxanomies. Against undead, constructs and some other taxas, it does nothing. Others, like demons, it has reduced effectiveness.
My hero is very low! to get HP, go to level 1 and 1-hit some easy monsters and use drinker of the dead on them...
It triggers all right, you just don't get anything. Well, 1 point of health for effort, but that's it. Vampirism's description makes no mention of monster taxonomy and expecting new players to delve into the XML to find this out is ridiculous. The fact that Vampirism's sudden ineffectiveness on floor 2 jarred someone enough to think it was a bug is the fault of the game, not the player. This is especially silly considering Vampirism wasn't originally limited by taxonomy. This was changed with the expansion, despite the skill already being under-powered. Now it's a joke - half the monsters in the game are effectively immune to it and some dungeon floors have nothing you can leech at all. It's an example of theme taking precedence over gameplay (or at least an example of a hasty change with unintended consequences). /rant tehniobium, I wouldn't bother with Vampirism until the devs rework it in an upcoming patch. If you still want to use it take some alternative healing skills like Fleshsmithing, Alchemy or Fungal Arts.
No problem iccorp2. According to www.dredmorwiki.com/wiki/Vampirism it is supposed to heal for dmg-done-by-skill + 1. I've been testing it and it seems at least the +1 has disappeared. Is that a bug then?
I can't answer the question, but dredmorwiki is often outdated so I have no idea if that is the correct information or not.
