Brittle...how does it work?

So, I have been playing around with the buffs that give brittle, and I can't seem to find any references anywhere that explain exactly how brittle works.

    For instance:

-Can a brittle buff GAIN stacks of brittle? If so, under what conditions? (I am pretty darn sure this happened multiple times when I played thru with the brittle buff from my mod).

-What counts towards breaking a stack of brittle. Being hit does, obviously. But what about blocked hits? Countered hits? Dodged hits? Magic Resisted hits? Magic Reflected Hits? etc...(I had very mixed results, it seemed, on some of these, Blocking especially, when I was testing my mod).

-Is there any way to make a spell refresh the number of brittle stacks a buff has if it is cast a second time while the buff is still up. (aka I have 3 stacks left on my brittle buff right now. When I cast the spell fresh, it gives me 5 stacks. Is there a way to get a re-cast of the spell right now to "refresh" my 3 stacks into 5 stacks?)

Anyway, any help understanding the mechanics behind brittle would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Taking damage triggers it, you still take damage(halved, unless it was a crit) when you block. DoT damage takes a brittle charge for every tick.

If you want to make it refreshable, the spell has to actually remove the old one before adding a new one(by using removebuffbyname).

If brittle buffs use allowstacking and a stacksize higher than 1, the stacks increase the bonuses of the buff, but not its longevity(each buff in the stack loses a charge every time you take damage).

Okay, so what you're saying is you actually have to lose hps to lose a stack of brittle, but it doesn't really matter how you lose them, am I right?

And no inherent way to make it refreshable, but a good workaround, I like that.

Now, I don't have "allow stacking" enabled in my brittle buff, but I am nearly positive something made it gain a stack, as opposed to lose a stack. First time I noticed it, I thought I must have been just miss-seeing...but I could swear it happened several times over the course of my last playthru. I am gana run my mod again (with changes, see my mod's post) and keep a lookout for it very specifically. But as far as you know, there is no way for this to have happened under normal circumstances...

Thanks for the answers, that makes things a lot clearer for me.

Right. Btw stuff like acid bolt traps have a tendency to strip your brittle buffs. ;)

As for gaining brittle charges... you may have found a bug. Hypothesis: maybe since they lose charges on damage, they can gain them on heal? Or on negative damage(resisted).

Yeah, I noticed that some traps or spells just ate the brittle buff alive...I am totally okay with that. It's hard to maintain an air of superiority when your choking to death on a sulfurous cloud or covered in slimy acid. It fits the theme of the spell very well actually.

And yeah, it didn't happen often, it wasn't like I was seeing it every few hits or something...but there were some times where, after a combat I would be at 1 stack left (and thinking about how it would be nice to be able to refresh the buff) and I would go into another combat and emerge with 2 stacks. And as for your negative damage theory, I did have a pretty high magic resistance from gear, somewhere in the neighborhood of like 60ish by floor 9. Now I might be wrong, it might not of happened (hence I'm gana do more testing) but yeah...I am pretty sure...

If you have layered buffs, it only shows the relevant info for the oldest.
