Corrupted items?

I found a crossbow which is really really powerfull in some kind of "evil chest". I used the crossbow now it said my sword got corrupted. Wtf is going on?

 

Some enemies can corrupt your equipment giving them permanent negative stats.

 

Seems like not just enemies, but also "bad" items.

 

My question is, can this corruption be undone? 'cause I've got some *great* stuff that I'd otherwise still be using if it weren't for those damn blobbys corrupting 'em.

 

Try using archeology if you have it, or get lucky Kronging it
