So someone, I think Null or Ruigi, mentioned unhiding some recipes as part of Essence's latest rebalance initiative. I couldn't help but notice that he seemed kinda reluctant to do it, and hey, who can blame him? He's a busy, busy guy, and the Core/expansion skill rebalances are a big undertaking already. Why throw crafting in on top of that? Besides, why wait for him to be done when tweaking craftDB for hidden recipes is really just a matter of pushing "1" and "0" a lot? I can do that myself! So I did. If it was a consumable, I unlocked it if it required two or less skill to craft. If it was a permanent, I unlocked it if it required three or less skill to craft. I also unlocked Metal Orby Staff, but in turn locked Jingly Jangly Crystal Staff, or whatever, since that seemed like a fair trade. Finally, if its clearly meant to be a strict upgrade over a lesser item, such as Dwarven Landmine vs. Dwarven IED, I left it hidden. I also intend to unhide all the +1 skill items, such as Tinkerer's Goggles (the only one in the core game). Your thoughts on what might need to be changed are appreciated and encouraged. How Do I Install This? OK, go to your C: Drive folder in My Computer. Now work your way through the following folders: Program Files -> Steam -> steamapps -> common -> Dungeons of Dredmor. Now, if you're installing the Core Game Rebalance, go to the "game" folder, if its for one of the expansions, go to "expansion" or "expansion2" and then go to "game". Rename the current craftDB "OldcraftDB". Move in CoreGameRebalancecraftDB and remove the phrase "CoreGameRebalance". Start Dredmor and enjoy!
I love this! But I am misunderstanding a bit and would like to enter idiot mode for a clarification. This one file will be replacing the /DoD/game/craftDB.xml or will we do the same for /DoD/expansion/game/craftDB.xml and /DoD/expansion2/game/craftDB.xml ??? Does DoD use the later of /game/, /expansion/game/ and /expansion2/game/ ? I would think it merged them all.
This file replaces only the crafDB in the DoD/game folder. The expansion folders have their own craftDBs in their own game files. I'm guessing the game applies them kinda like a mod does? But they're not merged. You'd have to ask a Dev why, but my guess would be it increases all around simplicity.
clockwork knight specifically gains clockwork power limb recipe on level up, so you might not want to unhide this.
I wan't aware, fixed. Gonna leave the goggles unhidden, since that was CKs lv. 0 recipe and revealing that doesn't steal nearly as much thunder from the tree (not that CK wasn't good before it gave recipes.) Also, RotDG file is up, only one change there. Didn't find anything that really seemed right unhidden in YHTNTEP, so I left that alone. On to other topics. Is there anything that you guys think should be hidden that isn't currently?
Guess Essence approves. XD I'll probably install this myself when I get a round tuit. They're very hard to find from what I'm told. >.>
