I had a character that abused Wild Magic+Archaeology mercilessly. She was close to max level before level 10. To be fair, the character was using Unarmed + Drunken Boxing + Warlockery + Vegan as their main way of murdering, so they were pretty evenly spread out over archetypes and didn't have a lot of max hp. I was rocking a Blessing of Mordekai with around 50 dodge un-buffed and could switch between Wind + Geology tomes or Cockaroach Shield + dragonscale shield, but that shit didn't help me much when those those red demon dudes slapped 30 health off of me despite my 23 armor, tons of pierce resist, and I dunno what other types of damage those dudes do thanks to the scrolling log being what it is, but I was wearing Mana Maille and had a bunch of resists. I was packing a Coat of Sagan for god's sake. How could such an overleveled, broken-ass character, using a powerful damage trick and a powerful survivability trick, be so easily beat so early?
That is odd. According to Dredmorpedia, Big Reds hit for 30 and have 7, so 37 total. is supposed to mitigate crushing, so you should have only taken 14 damage unblocked.
Huh. I had 14 armor without shields and Mana Maille should have given me at least 1 crushing resist I'm certain it was those red dudes slapping me and not something else.
Maybe you got countered and then hit again? 14 + 14 = 28 Or perhaps a counter-crit-crit: 21 + 21 = 42
No way. There were multiple. It's quite possible that I was getting critted. As I said, my max HP was low, so getting slapped around for 20-odd damage really hurt.
Perharps a "multiple monsters on a field spawn". Did this occur after opening a door? Sometimes there is a spawn bug with many monsters on a field and it's difficult to notice such a situation.
Yes it was a crowded door, In all the chaos, yes, I might not have noticed this, but in my experience, monsters like that can't move. This one followed me around.
