First of all, after months of not being able to post, I'm back! Woot! But what this thread is really about is the mars rover Curiosity landing on mars tonight (based on your timezone). I'll be staying up to watch it. It's mission is to find out whether mars was ever habitable. You can watch the landing at http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html There's this video on how it will be landed; since it's so much bigger than other rovers, airbags won't work. Who'll be watching this with me? It will land at 1:30 AM on the east coast, this will tell you how far into the future that is for you, and you can add "in [your timezone here]" (without quotes obviously) for a time.
In before we turn Mars into a wreck like Earth currently is. [/troll face] I'll watch the recording some other time - I have wizardlands to explore and a thread to tend to. :3
Well it was amazing to see, and when it finally landed I have rarely seen a room full of happy people as this. Then when we got the first image, it was awesome.
It's funny, because the entire roomful of people, all with computers, and equipment, are only there to watch it land, since whatever happened happened 15 minutes before and they're powerless to fix anything that goes wrong.
