I must admit the current dry-looking and rather washed out setting is not so ideal to me. Any idea when other biomes will become open for choosing when you start a new game? Will large maps feature more than one biome that you can cross over into? I DO enjoy biomes but only when they are very much different than others such as a vile forest, demon infested ancient desert, pristine mountain valleys... not like what Minecraft is doing with its savanna/dry savanna/wet savanna... urgh, if you're gonna make multiple biomes really make them unique with each biome having its own set of special enemies, resources, treasures, hidden ruins, etc! That above screenshot really appeals to me actually because we can see a green pine forest and then a desert with a pyramid - very different and surely they come with their own unique flora and fauna - I hope thats how the completed game will be. Also, on a side, are we going to be able to build palisades and fences?
Let us note for the record that that is a Potemkin Render, not a Real Screenshot. But yes, more biomes (including extra lushness) and fences are definitely things that will be done. I forget if we mentioned fences as-such on http://clockworkempires.com/development.html but biomes are definitely listed.
I'm pleased to know that copious lushness will be present in future updates. That Development Progress/Road Map page is rather impressive but I've found they are generally abandoned by the developers several months in (I'm looking at you Starbound/Castle Story/Stone Hearth). Will Gaslamp Games prove devoted in their usage of the Road Map?
We publicly committed to updating it everywhere it's mentioned, so yeah, we have to update it. And we will because WE ARE GASLAMP GAMES! Ahem. Regarding our ability to update things on a consistent schedule, please see our weekly blog post updates.
