I'm not sure what caused it, but my input to the game froze while I was playing. I wasn't able to move with the mouse or keyboard anymore, couldn't access menus or interact with any of the buttons on screen. The game itself wasn't frozen though - I was in diggleform and it went into the idle animation and the buttons lit up when I moused over them, but I couldn't click them. I couldn't quit the game either, I had to use the task manager to shut it down. When this happened I was in a monster zoo with only 7 monsters left. It was the ice level and I was walking though an area of effect spell when the my controls froze.
Just happened to me, too, on the same level. Cast Infernal Torus and moved away. Lost input after moving a couple of turns.
I've found this can happen (in the steam version) if you accedentially hit shift, and dont hit another key that is shift modified. If you hit shift again its all good again.
I've had this happen before. As far as I know alt tabbing back and forth a couple of times should fix it. Try that!
it usually happens to me after i alt-tab out and back into the game. i'm supposing it's an issue with adjusting the screen resolution.
I get it sometimes when shift tabing in steam, or like sky muffin the very occasionally alt-tab. Havent actually had it happen in a damage field. (Running 1.0.9 Rev B)
Absolutely. I've run into it a few times modding, particularly with mine spells that referenced a png animation with less frames than the mine looks for, or one that referenced an unindexed/rgb png. It's different if the game fails to load an animation on game start: then the game just hard crashes. But if it loads the image correctly on initialization and later can't find or load the image (say, maybe if it's moved or deleted), it flips out and hangs.
This has happened to me several times and I have attributed it to Steam or Steam overlay. To fix the problem, I simply ALT-TAB to cycle through my open windows until I got back to DoDs.
