I am both really glad and angry that I came across the trailer for Clockwork Empires. I remember when it got announced and I just had to sever any connections with your studio or that project. It was too much, everything I'd been waiting for in a game. PC Gamer's YouTube channel reconnected me and I'm both so glad the game is turning out to be everything I hoped it would be . . . but also I can't stand knowing that it's going to be MONTHS until release!! I don't know what I'm going to do now that's it's back on my radar . . . I briefly covered the last 7 pages of forum posts, but there's a good chance these questions have already been addressed so forgive me if they have. 1. ) What's the mod support looking like? Will it be possible to craft custom scenarios (based around a certain writer's stories perhaps)? Obviously you might not be be prepared to address this at this time. 2a. ) Are you considering a Direct Connect or LAN option for multiplayer? I read some comments about Amazon Web Services, but looking maybe 5 years in to the future the multiplayer might not be online any longer. I know that's a pessimistic view of video gaming support, but my friends and I routinely play games which are fairly old and need to emulate the multiplayer in some manner due to lack of planning. 2b. ) Also if there's going to be modding/scenario/scripting support would it be possible to implement in mutliplayer? 3. ) Will there be a GOG/Humble Bundle release? 4. ) Would you consider taking my Bitcoins for your game? I would gladly over pay, if you're looking for a convenient way to handle payments, Coinbase makes accepting BTC as transparent as Paypal makes accepting money now. Well, Paypal is a bad example but you should get what I mean. Thanks again! Can't wait for this title to come out!
I think they confirmed lan support, yes. But why are you asking for humble bundle? You said yourself you can´t wait for the game, so even if it would come out on humble some day, that would be at least a year or so after release, so wouldn´t you long own the game by then? You aren´t really expecting a humble bumdle release anything anytime near the actual release, are you?
My guess is he isn't referring to the actual humblebundles but using humblebundle as a payment system. I've seen Humble bundle handle full price game sales; some independent companies do this. For example I'm pretty sure I bought don't starve through the companies website and it used humble bundle to manage the payment. I'm not sure why he would care though..maybe he is concerned about DRM?
It's called the Humble Store. It's used by a lot of indies, I think for control but also because it allows for different options, as well as key-management (and not necessarily Steam). It also tends to work out cheaper for EU players because they charge in dollars rather than other currencies (like GOG), so a lot of 50%-off sales tend to be cheaper via Humble Store than via, say, Steam.
Well didn´t know that they had a seperate store. But if that is what he meant I think desura wold be a viable alternative, too.
Probably not. Desura is pretty hard on devs, and few seem to be making any real money through Desura. And it's not really a store as such, there's no store front. It's just a widget devs can put on their site that allows people to buy their game(s).
I don´t know aobut the first point, but how is desura any less of a store (as in distribution system) than steam? They follow the exact same principles (though steam is better working with better designs), at least in how you buy games. So why would you call steam or the humble store a store but desura not?
Humble is a store now, apparently. But that's off-topic anyway. Welcome to the forums, Juchmis! In regards to 2b, they've said several times that modding is on their list but they haven't really released any more information about it. At least, none that I noticed. I vaguely recall a blog post about them rewriting things in some new way to make things easier for them and that might make things easier to mod. I honestly don't remember and looking through the blogs I couldn't find it immediately.
1. Mod Support The game is extremely moddable because almost everything to do with gameplay is in xml data files and lua scripts which may be more or less cleverly hidden but ultimately accessible. We're wary of making statements about what "support" means in this context. Great power == great ability to make everything explode. (Um. To be clear: this applies both in-game and in terms of crashing the game.) 2a. Multiplayer w/o central servers Not my field, but The Gaslamp Way is that we don't screw over our fans. If this even were a problem -- and I don't think it is -- we'd make it not be a problem if it looked like it was going to be one. 2b. Multiplayer w/ mods I think this is theoretically possible but it could be a very complex support problem (see answer 1.) We'll know when we know. Anything is possible if you and your friends put enough work into it. 3. There will be Steam and non-Steam options. 4. Deutsche Marks only. In briefcase delivered directly to me. 4. (But, er, no bitcoins. Our accountant would have a fit.)
So you agree with me that desura is a shop? Because in your previous post you said it isn´t really a shop because it has no store front. Or did oyu refer to the humble store? Deutsche Mark eh? Guess I´ll have to ask my grandmother if she still has a deposit of them somewhere.
