Hey, I was reading through today's really interesting blog post and I remembered my experiences with housing my dwarves in dwarf fortress and how much of pain it could be when new immigrants show up constantly. Designing houses looks really fun and I'm really looking forward to customizing them, but my concern is that if you have new immigrants arriving all the time the game could turn into House Design Simulator 2014. I was wondering if there is a way to perhaps save a design for a house. Then when new immigrants show up you could designate x number of houses with that design to be constructed. Or perhaps there is another solution to this problem in the works? Either way I'm really happy with how the game is looking right now, great work Gaslamp team! EDIT: I just thought I should clarify in case it isn't clear. I'm really looking forward to customizing houses and building them, I just find that dwarf fortress can become a game where I do nothing but build housing so that's my worry that making homes for the colonists will take too much time and overpower the other aspects of the game.
Perhaps what they'll do with housing is similar to how they handle your initial (7?) immigrants. Namely giving you the tools to build roughshod housing quickly, think lean to's and shanty towns, giving you the time to build something a bit more stable. Also I know we can only build on one z level currently but I really hope we can build sprawling tenement/factory complexes.
