Say, hypothetically, if I angered the fishpeople and they bludgeoned all my soldiers to death, is there a way to convert civilians into soldiers or otherwise acquire new soldiers? I've got plenty of spare guns, I just need people to use them. I had a search but I could not find this information anywhere obvious.
In the build coming out whenever it comes out, you can now draft normal colonists into a military unit commanded by an NCO to become Militia. They will not fight as effectively as your regular military units and will be Most Upset about the draft. Units with Military Training as a trait can be drafted in and out of parties to become fully commissioned soldiers.
