A while ago we were asked to give thoughts on what we would like to see for different biomes. I am curious how much the biome we choose is going to effect what we can hunt and gather. If I choose a desert biome is water and food going to be much more scarce? If I decide to drop next to another settlement will we be competing for some resources? How important is purifying food and water going to be?
That's a really good question. So far it's struck me that while biomes would have some impact, it would be minimal and much more cosmetic in nature. I certainly hope it means different things - strategy and tactics - and not simply reskinning the same mobs and items to apply to different biomes.
Given the amount of effort you need to invest in art vs the difficulty of changing some parameters, it would be insane (heh) for different biomes not to have different characteristics. It's more work to create unique issues with different biomes, but it's almost certainly worth it in terms of varied player experience. So I'll be utterly astonished if the various biomes don't play differently. Given that food gets cooked, and beer brewed, I assume that will serve as the effective purification step. Whether "raw" food and water are dangerous... well, who knows? I wouldn't be entirely surprised, though!
You will not see diggles until the expansion when they add actually layers and they can be in underground dungeons
