I'm a believer in both innovation, and if it aint broke, dont fix it. This is one of those things where I think 'if it aint broke dont fix it applies." This forum software tries to break a working mold and (to me) seems to fall pretty short.

Now there are the topic categories on the right listed, but beyond that it just seems... cluttered. Lack of subforums really hurts too.

Gaslamp, I would be more than willing to administer a more robust forum system, possibly even with something like a ticket system for bugs to help keep them more orderly etc and prevent as many reposts of the same thing.

I'd even be willing to use my own server (which I have) for it if necessary, though that would require either new user registrations OR migrating the user database (which may or may not be easily done depending on the format).

    Lets Upgraydde!

In other news, Dredmor is just rockin, I'm loving it. Already played it way more than I probably should have lol. That means ya'll did a great job. I cant wait to see what further content you make in the future for it, and even more, what games will follow up this performance in the future.

I feel ya brother, these forums just don't feel as "cosy" as the traditional forums do. At first I was digging the layout, but it soon became a bit dull... It's ashame because there's a ton of good stuff being written by the community on this very forum :(

What sort of forum setup did you have in mind btw Lucent?

I enjoy the bookmarking options of these forums and being able to very easily see where new posts are on the main lists, as well as topics that im following. However i miss the easy-access formatting tools, quoting, and other such features that other forums run. From an ease of use standpoint thats a bit disappointing. The automatic youtube embedding is something that i dont care much for.

If the userbase stays small there shouldnt be too much trouble going forward. But if it continues to grow and the frequency of posts keep climbing, these forums are going to be outgrown pretty quickly i suspect. There will become a greater need of some form of official community moderation, and ticket/bug tracking would simply be great. Would like to see the Dev team move to a publicly viewable bug tracker which has a community moderator or two fishing the forums and adding bugs to the tracker.

Since this is the first major release by the gaslamp team as far as i know, they still have a bit of growing and learning to do, probably dont have a lot of resources available at the moment and were not expecting the game to be as much of a hit. Hopefully the community will continue to be patient with them as they work out all the kinks. Im pretty proud of the team for how they have handled the things that have come up so far, and have a great respect for them remaining engaged with the community.

Glad to know I'm not the only one thinking this.

phpBB forums are pretty much a go-to solution that can be implemented quickly and easily but there are some other pretty robust solutions I'd be looking at. One of the main things is being able to have subforums within a section.

The other thing I dont have confidence in these forums is when they announce another game, and worse, when another game releases. The list on the right will either have to get much longer OR these forums will get even more cluttered as posts for different games are mixed up in the same areas.

I actually avoided phpBB for a while when doing guild sites and such because of the lack of subforums, but they added that functionality natively in version 3.0 and later.

The Dev team is pretty small currently. And for the next month or so things are going to be hectic for them. I wouldnt expect any major upgrades to forums, or bug tracking or anything like that for atleast the month and a half after launch period. They are still great ideas to propose though. And if there are any free or low cost solutions which dont require a lot of effort to migrate, im sure they would make considerations if the advantages were brought to their attention.

They mentioned reskinning the forums soon, they just need time. Busy busy people you know :p. You should keep up with GLG news ;).

I think these work fine. (Functionally)

(Also, the forums have very nice HTML formatting for posts, which is nice for people who know HTML :p)
