No one knows me. So that`s fine (okay.jpg)

So yeah, from word of mouth, etc... I bought DoD. However with all the fixes, and balances etc... that were required sort of put me off of the game. So here I am (5) patches later. Whats changed (foreign keyboard doesn`t let me type certain grammatical requirements...)

There's been too many specific changes to mention them all, but in general, new items, new recipes, new rooms a couple of new critters, lots of bug fixes, and some rebalancing (which is always a neverending battle in skill and/or class based games).

Just glance over the older blog entries to see some of the lists of changes:
    1.06: http://www.gaslampgames.com/blog/2011/10/11/patch-1-0-6-is-now-live/#more-2354
    1.05: http://www.gaslampgames.com/blog/2011/09/06/patch-1-0-5-is-now-up/#more-2267
I'm a bit lazy so I'll leave it to you to go back further and find the earlier ones.

/edit btw, before you ask there was no 1.04

So what would I aim for when I'm building a melee char? Any tips/tricks?

Dual swords makes for a nice counter-oriented defense. Dual-shields unarmed is good for tanking, plus you get knockback skills which are always handy. You're going to need some form of backup healing, e.g. from alchemy or psionics. Vampirism won't cut it (though it can still be useful for extending your combat endurance). Get an escape skill -- Dodger and Burglary are good, though Burglary requires more skill investment to get to the escape abilities.

At the moment, it looks like you will in fact need some kind of ranged attack to take down Dredmor, since his melee is beyond beastly. But you needn't dedicate skill slots to that. Just save up some tentacle wands and keep an eye out for good crossbows.
