I just tried Going Rouge Perma Death. And while it was more fun the playing on Dwarfish Moderation without Perma Death, I couldn't make it past 5 rooms. I got halfway to level 2 (not floor 2, level 2) then die. I tried 5 times and still die almost right away. My skills were as follows: Pyromancy Magic Training Blood Magic Ley Walker Alchemy Pysconics Unarmed Combat/Shrooms/Mathmagic (Changed it around a few times) Is my skill setup just wacko, or am I just bad at Going Rouge? Any tips/builds would be greatly appreciated.
The jump from DM to GR can be a bit jarring. Your build is fine, but be liberal with your consumables use in the beginning. If you are okay with it, kill some mobs on traps to conserve your mana for groups. With pyro as potentially your only attack skill, use some fancy footwork and line up mobs for dragon's breath.
You don't need ley walker on top of blood magic. In any case, Ley Walker is a bit underpowered (at least in 1.06). I'd substitute something that can help you survive straight out of the gate instead. There's a few skills like that -- Vampirism, Golemancy, and even more off-the-wall choices like Berserker, Armor, Shield-Bearer (off-the-wall because they aren't really mage skills). Even if you don't put more points into them, the level 1 versions can help you at least get started building a character (which can be a problem for anyone in GR). As far as your multiple choices -- if it were me, I'd take Unarmed Combat, simply because I don't like being without a melee skill even on a mage build. But I know others have gone the no melee route so I'm no expert.
