And also, Hi! Carl Sagan the adventurer 2,171,920 points Vanquished Lord Dredmor! Big Game Hunter Smithing Fungal Arts Perception Blood Magic Master of Arms Dual Wielding Going Rogue Permadeath Realm of the Diggle Gods No Time to Grind Please note that with this build, Blood Magic is completely useless, because nothing else is a mana-dependent skill whatsoever. ASK ME ANYTHING. ^_^
Grats! BTW, I wouldn't call blood magic useless -- granted, virtually any other skill would be better (except possibly vampirism, which can be a serious drawback early on). But it does help you to maintain a gargleblaster buff (yeah -- it's not much but it's something).
Doesn't the second level of blood magic give a melee drain-on-hit sometimes? That seems like something that would be pretty useful.
Haha, yeah that's right I guess it can do that (I just lutefisked gargleblasters), but it's not worth a skill slot for that (especially since the Astrology skill tree lets you cast it, and that is intrinsically more useful)
I mean, Blood Magic also gives you the best panic heal button in the game - the Haematic Phylactery - but keeping it up requires taking a pretty nasty debuff, so it's probably not worth it, especially in a build where you've already got Perception and Fungal Arts keeping you well stocked in fairywodgers.
Actually, these days Astrology gives you a totally different buff that looks exactly like the Gargleblaster buff but is better. The two stack. But yeah, I'd rather have Astrology than Blood Magic in that build too...
Astrology = regular syzygy. Gargle-blaster only gives out the lesser version. This was changed a long haul ago when dredmor was still rather new.
This makes the gargleblaster even more unhelpful. Maybe we should start updating the Wikis? I vote "We are awesome enough, yes let's do it!"
Yeah, pretty much none of the wikis have been updated since YHTNTEP. If you want a mostly-accurate sense of the current state of Dredmor (I think it's still one update behind?), you should check out Dredmorpedia. It's not perfect, but it's still a very useful resource.
I feel like I'm cheating if I use online resources, but it might be a good push for the expert players to try to update the aspects of the game they know well (not everyone avoids them like I do) and so it helps the community. Seems like a lot of people here fit that category. I'm also excited for the conquest of the Wizardlands expansion, that should be out soon--tomorrow, or today (depending on time zone/arbitrary definition). I may just try to beat it immediately.
