Install mods without STEAM?

So I have a steam account, just for this game. I also had to install it at work, as my home is all Linux based. (The linux binaries pushed through steam work great for me, btw.) So here's the rub. I want to be able to use mods at home too, where Steam isn't an option. Is there an easy way to do this? I tried loading them all in one game session, and then disconnecting from steam to see if they persist. It looks like without an active connection, the mods don't load. Do they actually load from the internet every time I start the launcher? I could see it checking for, and downloading updates every time, but the entire mod?

I see the sticky about where to drop the .zip for each distribution, but where can I find these?

Any input is greatly appreciated. If this is the wrong forum, please let me know.

Since you know where to place the zips, then I presume your question is where to find the mods themselves. Obviously the Mod Release area has most mods. But the few that exist on Steam alone can only be grabbed there. They are in the form of .dat files that are actually zips. They will have some retarded number instead of the name. But you can rename "Really Long Number.dat" to "Really Long Number.dat.zip" and open it. Then read the /mod/mod.xml to find the actual name of the mod so you can rename it to the actual name of the mod.

Then copy those to the correct location and enjoy Steam-free Steam-only mods!

Very stupid question then, where is the mod release area? I must be in slow mode today or something.

Awesome, thanks so much. Desura would have been much nicer, but they seem to be slacking as far as DoD is concerned.

Yeah. The Gaslamp crew are still fighting Desura to get things up to date.

Desura is in need of a staff. If they hired even a few people to help out they would negate a huge amount of problems that seem to plague them at current.

So just a status update here: I have put all my mods into ~/.local/share/Dredmor/mods chmodded it to 777. When I start the launcher, all the mods show up, but the UI feels locked up. I can't select any boxes, I can only close the program. I can still use the launcher to start a game as normal though, this behavior is only when going to the mods menu. Any advice from others who run mods via linux without steam?

    *edit*

Ok, did some more testing. It appears this is only happening with the linux binaries. I ran the M$ version using wine, and that one behaves normally. The linux binaries exhibit that issue even if I don't have any mods loaded up in the directory. (both x86 and 64) Just choosing the mods screen locks up the application.

I am using 64-bit Ubuntu, 12.04, latest version of Dredmor with all expansions. Should I put it in the bugs forum? I'd rather see if its just me, surely someone else is running mods in linux.
