Hello, I just picked up this game and it's quite awesome. The only drawback, is my touchpad... Sounds like a personal problem right? My touchpad on my laptop is quite... horrible. I was wondering if there's a mod, expansion, or update that adds more keyboard bindings to be able to play mostly with the keyboard, instead of using my diabolical touchpad.
I realize this isn't a game solution, but you should be able to pick up a cheapy mouse for like, $10 or less to use instead of the touchpad. Touchpads are vile. /laughs Anyhow, so far as I know, there's no keyboard-only mod or settings, yet.
Well bummer. Looks like I'll just use my mouse and disable touchpad. You see, my touchpad bridges the gap between our world, and hell. Like the real one. Only it's more frustrating than agonizing. Which is in no way a consolation. Looks like I'll have to figure out how to mod just so I can provide myself a little more comfort. I just hate mice. I run Fedora 17 with gnome 3 and have it so I don't ever use a mouse or touchpad. I navigate solely with the kb. So looking through the dredmodwiki, I see tutorials on how to mod up some skills and such. Anyone think they can at least point me in the right direction to creating a mod that adds some new keybindings? If not, I'm fdisk'ing reality...
Done. I only had a backup taken at midnight my time today. So everything is as it was before. Though I do feel better about it all.
Most laptops have a way of disabling the touchpad. Some even do it automatically when an external mouse is plugged in.
I'm sorry for necroposting, but search hasn't returned anything useful. Is there still no way to enable keyboard support in DoD?
Depends what you mean by keyboard support, you can do almost everything with the keyboard such as moving and opening doors automatically now, attacking or autolooting. Some things will always take a mouse though like dragging items.
I meant something like this: http://www.nethack.org/v343/Guidebook.html#_TOCentry_7 It seems I can't use abilities, equip items, cast spells etc.
Doesn't work that way. Not supported, and the UI interface definitely isn't going to be significantly changed anytime soon.
Not necessarily. One could easily imagine a setup where, for example something like Alt-Arrow Key moves the cursor one square in the corresponding direction, Enter functions as a left-click and Shift-Enter functions as a right-click. We just have to convince gaslamp to implement support for such a function (but that's an issue for the suggestions forum). EDIT: I just remembered that some versions of Windows have something like this built into the OS (though it doesn't work very well). Go into Accessibility Options (or whatever the hell damn fool thing it's called now. edit: its "Ease of Access" in Windows 7) in the control panel and enable something called "Mouse Keys" (IIRC) ALSO: ALL capacitance-based touch technology is horrible. Yet for some unfathomable reason computer manufacturers continue to use it despite the fact that resistive touchpads both work better and cost less to make
