Well, after 96 hours I've had my first crash-to-desktop, in the middle of clearing out a monster zoo with my most successful character yet. I was playing GRPD, and I just knew that he would be lost, since most games with permadeath delete a save as soon as you've loaded it. But lo and behold, an autosave was there for me to load, and I only lost a few turns. Kudos for making this work. It might make it a little easier to "cheat" permadeath (for those who want to), but IMO that's infinitely preferable to losing hours of progress from a CTD. Thanks!
If I play for more than an hour or two at a time (usually as a consequence of playing, then going AFK for an hour or more forgetting I left everything on, then coming back and playing again), I often end up with a CTD, and that autosave definitely cuts out a lot of the frustration. (Note to self, I have to learn to more consistently turn off the computer when I'm away, particularly in the summer since my PC helps to keep my small bedroom warm).
Yeah, the autosave system was implemented after the early days of DoD when crashes occurred with terrifying regularity. Congrats on your achievement. ( and then the dungeon collapsed!) And thank you devs for autosaves. All games are improved by a simple autosave system.... I never have the foresight to save as frequently as I need to.
