Hey there, i'm here cause i was wondering if that was just the cruelness of the rogue-like genre or if it really was a random mapping problem. As a matter of fact, i really REALLY love this game, it's humour, it's references, it's graphics all make it a great game to play and it is placed in one of my very favourites. Sadly, i was having a pretty nice playthrough just earlier and i decided to take a look at lvl 0 now that i thought i was strong enough to survive it and i ended, well, in a totally enclosed room with no portal to get back. So does that mean i'm doomed or is it some kind of technical problem, i'd like to know, thanks.
Pseudo bump. How easy/hard is L0 suppose to be? My current run is effortless and only contain 6-8 monsters on the level? Around dungeon level 7, with an early character, I found a portal to L0 and promptly got my butt greased. I saved before taking the portal so I did some save/load spamming. On my 4th reload, I was able to make it through L0, barely. Now, with a 2nd and far more powerful lvl 22 character, I'm on dungeon level 12 and have found another portal to L0. I've reloaded and gone through 5x now. Loot is lousy and insta-killing lone wandering monsters. How is L0 suppose to be? I do like the random dungeon generation. Could Interior Dredmoration v1.1 have an effect of making L0 to easy?
If you mean my mod Interior Dredmorating (either version), then the answer should be "no". Last time I went through a mysterious portal using my mod, I was up to my eyeballs in Acid Slicks and Big Reds. If anything, my mod might make it harder, because some of the trickier rooms that can't normally show up on the same floor could theoretically spawn near each other. As Daynab mentioned, the Level Zero magic portal realms are a random assortment of rooms and monsters of all levels. If your character entered the portal from Floor 12, then that means that around 80% of what you find inside the portal should feel "underpowered" compared to what you've been facing before going into the portal.
Have you tried using area affects or knockback attacks on the walls? There are secret rooms in the main game that can only be accessed by blowing up their fragile walls (which look normal till you blast them). Perhaps the portal dumped you inside one of those rooms? Any bomb or area effect that can target an empty space adjacent to the walls should be able to blow holes in the correct wall, assuming that's what's going on.
