I'm not sure WTF happened. I saved a game yesterday (I had explored maybe 1/8 of the 2nd level) and today when I load the save, it states i'm in some alternate dimension, the map has no record of any of my exploration yesterday, and the enemies seem really powerful - like one can take me all the way down to zero (where the day before I had been playing very cautiously and nothing could really touch me that bad). Unplayable save. I can't progress.
You post a link to the save? I take it you are not playing permadeath. What floor level does the map say you are on?
No, not playing permadeth (but I didn't die until after I loaded the save) I had saved before & loaded without any issues The map says "Level 0" When I die, it says I died in a mysterious dimension. Save is www.tmans.info/misc/Bubaloo.sav
Level 0 is a "bonus level" you can be taken to if you go into a mysterious portal, and there you can commonly spot out-of-depth (more difficult, that is) creatures.
Well, no idea how I got there. I wasn't there when I saved it and I was there when I loaded. Oh well. time to re-roll.
Well It is possible that the teleporter to a mysterious level was behind a bookcase or vending machine, and that you stepped on it without seeing it.
