By that I mean that early on, when all you have is corn, meat, fungi and berries, I would like to tell my kitchen to make maize chowder ONLY for my workers, and save the other stuff for making overseer quality food.
Hmm yeah, now you can probably make overseer food quite easily rather early on, if it wasn't for the fact the kitchens will tend to turn your pumpkins into stew.
Exactly. Hey Alavaria, what's the best method to make overseer food anyways? Right now I'm struggling to have enough overseers to maintain industry and farm and do all the other stuff. I always seem to be 1-2 overseers behind where I want to be.
It's a later thing. My current plan is basically: 30+ population: prepare to transition from maize to wheat 40+ population: by now the transition should be done, prepare to build the superkitchen complex (iron ovens etc) 50+ population: overseer number should be at 18+, complex is done, now begin farming pumpkins Basically, one kitchen will make bread and another one will follow: > Make bread (low minimum) > Make Farmers' Stew My guess is one kitchen (5 people) should be about able to feed your 76 lower class. And then a second kitchen (doesn't even need 5, maybe 3) should be able to produce 24 farmers' stew a day. Done.
k, seems easy enough. And the current Overseer farming method is to just make more and different things right? Seems sort of rough creating new workshops to get new overseers except they need overseers too.
The game is set up such that your first few will come pretty fast, up to like 12 or so? When I start getting mines and metalworks going and begin cranking our Iron Ovens that massively jacks up your production. It isn't the oven modules themselves that do it, it's all the smelting iron, shaping iron which also plays a part. I started working out what the production looked like but I never shared the spreadsheet. Iron ovens are good though (plus, you need the most of them). My complex plans calls for 7+6+5 iron ovens. But they make good trade fodder as well... Turning out all the iron parts to repair your ovens is also an important thing. ====================================== An alternative, let's say at 60 people (20 overseers) and using maize**, 1 kitchen Have a lot of your Maize Chowder stockpiled (lets say 360 units, but you can probably get away with like 120) Start your pumpkin farm. Set your kitchen to the following: >>Minimum Farmers' Stew = 60 >>Minimum Basic Food = 360 or whatever The general idea is obvious (but it isn't stable, so I don't like it). Basically, if your 5-cook kitchen can prepare about 80+ basic food, you will have excess cooking capacity. Thus: you first make pumpkins into Farmers' Stew, and then afterwards both your pumpkins and maize will be turned into Maize Chowder/Stew. BUT, whenever you fall below 60 (ie: 3 day buffer for your overseer) then the kitchen will only use the pumpkins to make Farmers' Stew, since that has priority. If there's no pumpkins left but maize, then it will turn maize into maize chowder. **See, you can get away without wheat. But it is a bit finagly... however you can probably use two kitchens if you need more than 5 cooks, however both need the same pair of orders (Farmers' Stew on top)
