I entered a Monster Zoo and cleared the room, then noticed it still said I had 44 monsters remaining. I looked at the map, and noticed a second room to the south that had been revealed. Somehow, it has created a single monster zoo and split it between two rooms.
Hm, and I was just about to finish clearing the second room and noticed that the Zoo counter was absent. I finished clearing the room and got no reward
The dungeon floors are all randomly generated and sadly part of randomly generated content is that weird things tend to happen, it's not as much a bug as it's a side effect of the game engine. As for your lack of reward I can only assume that you left the floor at one point which "stops" the zoo in order to prevent abuse of deshonest sneaky sneaks who'll just murder some monsters, ascend or descend a floor, heal up, rinse and repeat. Otherwise I don't know what the issue could possibly be.
Ah, okay. I've just never seen that happen before, so I thought it was a bug introduced in the last expansion. And I'm sure I did leave the floor between the two rooms, as I hadn't found a shop on that floor yet. Thanks for the info!
Heh, you can get up to 200 monsters that way. Rewards should scale to number of monsters... Though the added XP is always nice
Personally I'm quite fond of the zoo concept, they're challenging, force you to prepare propperly and act as a test to see if your guy is up to snuff. Not to mention that the possibillity of getting a buffed up Cloak of Sagan makes the grind worth it. ...although I'd appriciate it if there were fewer of them so that they'd feel a smidge more special.
Alright, it just seems odd, for the multi-room ones, that if you leave the floor/go to the pocket dimension between the rooms, it cancels the zoo. It makes sense for the single room zoos, I know I used to pop up to another floor to heal during them, at least before I started using the vampire trait for all my characters, but it's very annoying for the multi-room zoos.
I'm quite happy about the split - especially the one with the two breakable doors in the wall dividing it. I found I could spam throwing knives from the gloves that provide an infinite supply through the doors without smashing them. Also, I can summon mustache golems into the room, and cast area effect spells through the dividing wall. I regard this as fair trade for all the times I died unfairly to charging rutabagas.
