Monsters can counter the AOE of thibault's trompement

Yeah, monsters can counter the long-distance physical attack of Thibault's Trompement, and I get damaged by the counter attack. from 3 spaces away.

Yep. I've been poly-countered using Ki Strike. it's harsh.

 

They can actually counter all of the weapon based area attacks. This makes me very cautious about using Ragnar's Meteor.

 

Can AOE effects crit? Otherwise they would be next to useless vs the tougher enemies.

 

yes they can.

 

They can do everything an attack can but do not apply your weapon damage or procs on any but the main attacked target in front of you.

So they can crit, be countered and dodged. I'm not sure whether they can be resisted though, I think so.

 

Blocked, I think, rather than resisted.

 

Ruigi used a workaround in his mod for the sonic boom wand: the on-hit gives -100% counter for 1 rd.
