On level 6. His name was Machacator, and got killed by an unique Squiddy. Skills: Vampirism 2, Maces 2, Shield Bearer 2, Master of Arms max, Berserk 2, Artful Dodger 2 and Smith max Weapons: Main, magma mace with thaumite infection, backup Triple Flail (maybe I should have used it in that last fight...) Armor: Runed Iron Hjalmr, Shield of Caketown, Serpentine, Aluminum boots, and some rings and amulet that upped damage. Artifact xbow of 7 piercing and 2 righteous or something like that. I have been able to melee almost everything, what I couldn't melee I packed full of bolts or threw other stuff at them. But this Squiddy got my health down to 16, and completely blinded me, so I had to run and hope not to run into the monster or anything else. I didn't, managed to chug down a couple of healing pots, regained sight... And misclicked when casting Knightly Leap. %D I'd like to try again with a similar build, the idea was to have so many defensive buffs that entering combat was as advantageous as possible. Any suggestions / recommendations?
This is why I always take Burglary. The amount of XP you get from unlocking EVERY SINGLE DOOR AND CHEST IN THE WHOLE DUNGEON adds up to thousands and thousands of XP. You'll also get a point in Trap Affinity, so you can get even more XP from the traps on Floors 1 and 2, where it matters the most. Also, for a measly 2 Points, you can get Ninja Vanish, which will save your life any time you are completely surrounded or completely blinded. The monsters can't attack you if they can't see you. It lasts for 10 rounds with a 20 round cooldown, so it's pretty much guaranteed to be up whenever you need it. Finally, for a 3rd Point, you can Move in a Mysterious Way. Now that it's fixed in 1.0.5, it's a mana-less Teleport "spell", to any square you can see, with a 24 round cooldown. Great for getting ranged on uber melee bosses - like the squiddy that got your character - looting those items on islands, and bypassing traps you can't disarm and are blocking a narrow passage. Another way to counter being blinded is to drink a Radiance Potions - it should let you see at least a square or 2 in every direction. I haven't tested this thoroughly, but I've also drunk Potions of Clear Vision while blinded by squiddies or masks, and it seems to counter the debuff entirely and provide normal vision, or better.
Thanks for the Tips! I didn't know how Ninja Vanish or Move in Mysterious Ways worked... I've taken Burglary before, but only up to Lockup. I'm SO going to drop artful dodger. It's not like I'll be dodgin' anything with that armor, anyways.
Yeah, I've had Dodger and Burglary before, and while Knightly Leap is handy to combo with Move in a Mysterious Way, it's not vital to have. Also, the bonuses from maxing the Dodger tree are only going to make you break even with the negatives from the heaviest armors - hardly worth it, in my opinion.
