Hi folks! I'm currently working on my first DoD mod and while toying with possible ability ideas I was wondering what would you guys think about it. While I'm fleshing out the skill tree and thinking of some different mechanics for it, here's the basic idea for it. I'm thinking of a words mage (name still a work in progress). Basically, he's this frail, wimpy type of wizard that always got bullied in wizard school and made fun of, but he stumbles his way in the dreaded Dungeons of Dredmor to prove once for all that the Pen IS mightier than the Sword. Imagine him like a sort of Rincewind impersonator from Terry Pratchett's wonderful books; the mage never realizes how he manages to do anything but somehow through random happenstance or the positive alignment of planets, he ends up killing monsters and saving the day.It would be a goofy, silly sort of character, in my opinion perfect for the DoD atmosphere. I'm thinking of introducing a new type of weapon, a pen, specifically for him, which may or may not have charges on it (ink charges, of course). His abilities may or may not use up charges in order to inflict various ailments on mobs; I was toying with a couple of skill ideas like: Rincewind (I'll call my mage that for now) covers his eyes and furiously shakes his pen in front of him; the ability would blind / stun monsters in front of him as ink blobs get in their eyes. Rincewind takes out a piece of paper, writes a word on it, crumples it into a ball and throws it at a monster. Upon contact, the paper explodes, doing damage and inflicting random ailments on the target (fire, poison, stun, etc.). Rincewind's eyes open widely as even he's shocked at what he just pulled off. Rincewind writes a strongly-worded letter of indignation towards the Management. This kind of behavior shall not be tolerated! Your boss will hear about this! Target would take large amounts of damage and would probably run away in tears. All the abilities and the ideas are still a work in progress: consider this an interest gathering thread. So... what do you think?

Well, I typically only hang around the mods section of the forum since I like seeing what new and interesting ideas there are that I can potentially throw into my next DoD game. I'd like to say that this skill tree seems quite interesting though I'm not sure if the custom animations can be done at this time. If they can, that would be even better. XD
I think it would technically be possible to make your "pen" a wand, and I think Nicholas gave us the ability to make infinite charge wands when the next patch is here. Animations are possible as far as I know, but of course a lot of work.
Wow, people really seem to like the mod idea All the more reason to put some heart into it. The Eldritch Lexicographer and the Dictomancer sound pretty bad-ass, I'll definitely take them into account! Should also have another update this weekend, at most on Sunday, with a rough draft for abilities , lore, and a name.
