Currently, buffs can either go away over time, after taking a certain number of hits, or after giving a certain number of hits. Debuffs all just go away after a certain amount of time. Why not have some that use the latter two methods? Like, getting covered in a ball of snot that you have to wipe off by hitting monsters. Or a bad-karma curse that reduces your stats until you've "paid it back" by getting hit a bunch. These wouldn't be an especially big deal for melee characters, but mages would find them irritating since melee's the last thing they want to have happen to them. And mages have it too easy right now.
