I was wondering if there were any plans to include Path and Roads in the Colonies. Even if just dirt tracks, something to help make all the buildings feel like more of a cohesive grouping rather than just random things on a map. I mention this for two reasons: 1) The video and screenshot of the building so far just seem to feel kind of empty. With the buildings kinda just plopped down and nothing to show that they are part of something more. 2) I have been obsessed with paths ever since the early settlers games, where the dirt paths would form between buildings based on the paths your workers took (much more linear back then). Once the paths formed, they moved faster along those routes and started favouring them when sensible to do so. You could then upgrade them to stone paths for an even greater speed increase. If your not going to be using paths, is there anything else in the works to try and make things feel more connected and cohesive?
theres going to be railroads of some sort they've said. Those should be pretty interesting on the loading and offloading of freight.
Now you mention that, I do recall something about pipes... but then something about it making the map to messy? Are pipes still a thing? If so, maybe that will help give that feeling of the buildings being more related to each other.
They had a dev blog about it being too clutter until they made the policy of only one mechanical input per building being needed. I guess they'll have multi level steam pipes to make it so people can walk underneath them.
There will be roads! The reason roads are not in any media is because they have some bugs right now, so we temporarily disabled them. Fixing / implementing other stuff has had priority so far, but eventually they'll be back in.
Ah great to hear, are they something that the player marks to be build or something that generated by the game?
I always liked roads that appear naturally as citizens move from place to place, they tend to be much more organic than anything I can build myself.
In that line of thought It would be AWESOME to have a heatmap of some sort to see the paths taken by the different folk. It doesn't have to be fancy I would prefer at the least just a set of lines like in banished where the peasant's path from home to work is shown.
