So, I seem to be having an issue with permadeath. I selected permadeath the first time I played the game and now I can't disable it. Deselecting it when starting a new game doesn't disable it. Even though it's unchecked, I'm still forced to start a new game when I die. Reinstalling the game doesn't fix this.
Thanks, but this I think is a known bug. The DxDiag is not really needed. Since you mentioned reinstalling, I must ask what distributor you got the game from and what expansions you have? Steam is the most common. Desura and Gamefly are possible, but they currently are dragging their feet to accept the current 1.0.11 version of the game that was submitted to them. And the current expansions include Realm of the Diggle Gods,(RotDG, AKA EXP1) and You Have to Name the Expansion Pack.(YHTNTEP or YNEP or even EXP2) And when you say it forces you to start a new character, what exactly do you mean? If you select Load from the Main Menu, is there no save for your characters? Or does it do something else I am not understanding?
That is why I asked. The issues of the game not remembering to keep it unckecked/checked is still current, but I am thus far unaware of one that actually forces permadeath when you manually disable it. Is this a known issue?
I'd had an interesting thing happen: sometimes when I die and I start a new game, it automatically unchecks permadeath and I have to check it again. I check it, and it works. But it's weird that it unchecks.
Yeah. I play without Permadeath and it checks itself every time I make a character. It works fine so long as I uncheck it though.
Basically, yeah, what I mean is that even with permadeath unchecked my characters still permadie. Like the UI/game doesn't recognize that it's checked. Also, the game doesn't force me to make a new character. If I save my game, the saves are still there. I was just saying that making a new character doesn't seem to correct the UI bug or whatever. Sorry for the confusion. Also, this is the Steam version with both Realm of the Diggle Gods and the nameless expansion. Also, I'm so used to including the DxDiag to forum posts about bugs that I did it out of habit more than anything else!
I'm sorry. I searched for permadeath on the forums and I didn't see anything in like the first 10 pages of results, so I thought I'd post just to make sure.
No reason to apologize. I know I have read this somewhere here, but I cannot recall how it was worded. It is known. But it is considered a low priority to fix for obvious reasons. Cheer up. You did the right thing pointing it out.
