Hello, the name's HG and am rather fond of sadomasochistic games like Dwarf Fortress, some roguelikes and Men of War amongst other. Looked through the forums and a few articles but haven't found any info on this, will it be possible to customize the player's civilization from the standard theme of the structures to the military's uniform style and colors so it's not always British redcoats which while nice looking would end up being dreadfully dull in the longterm. Especially the latter, so players could build colonies to match their nation's military of the time, in my case the Portuguese tan for soldiers.
Ehm. CE isn't supposed to be in any way historically correct, and will probably not have either English or Portuguese uniforms (at least not the factions themselves, instead some random faction with Doom 3 uniforms, Plastic uniforms and maybe Mexican uniforms). I would be disappointed if it would feature historically fitting uniforms anyways.
Not asking for historical outfits, just a way to let players customize their experience based on the colony's location and the backstory they are trying to create. Basic things like changing the uniform's color and if the devs decide to go deeper, then a more complete army builder of sorts with either predetermined themes or a mix-match of the player's choosing. For example, one player establishes his colony in a tundra/snowy region, you could change the soldier's uniforms to a greatcoat with fur hats similar to Ushankas, on a desert region you could issue them khakis and field/aussie caps. Not only would it help draw some extra attention but people could also roleplay better.
First of all: I already like you because you have a "Ring of Red" avatar (god I whish my emulator wouldn´t kill the game 3/4 into the campaign). Second: From what I´ve seen so far the engine doesn´t seem to be able to do more than colorswaps on predefined models. So maybe you can sustomize the colorscheme, but I guess that´s about it. At least for clothing. The buildings hoever have been confirmed to be highly customizable. SO I guess you´ll have to live with that. Of course I am not a developer and don´t know if my persception is right. Maybe the engine can do more than I think...
Can say the same for you, Sanger Zonvolt was so greatly the definition of a man that the universe spawned a new one. Even simple color-swaps could do the trick to break the monotony of always having the same "faction" of sorts.
If I get the option to customize uniforms, I'll issue one uniform regardless of weather or environmental conditions. Whats the point in a uniform if you're just going to cover it up with fur or, because the men are feeling a little chilly and their toes are falling off?
