Basically a short anecdote here: I'm on the third floor and see a different colored djinn. I assume it's the leader of a group. He fires an acid bolt at me and I die. It was a djinn fizz. There should not be a 7 floor difference in these. I'm okay if there's a monster from a floor above or below, maybe two floors, but 7, I am on the third floor and have to deal with a monster from the last floor? I was actually rather low on health, the bolt doesn't have scaling, but it was enough that I could fight enemies from the third or fourth floor while my food healed me. And sorry I did not get a picture. I do have it on my high scores with 43k points, though I don't know what gives points that char was thief with maxed burglary (and I had successfully stolen from brax which is nice).
OOD monsters do seem to be a little more prevalent in 1.0.6 than before. I saw a sickly diggle on level 5 and felt bad for him. I have yet to run into the Djinn Fizz on level 3 yet but I did see a Lava Eely on 3.
They hurt, but I believe they scale a bit to your level. I killed a couple Fizz Djinns on 3, and I literally yelled out "WHAT. THE. F." when I saw a lava eely 5 floors earlier than usual. I took it melee (reasonable piercing resist), so it's definitely not the same kind of guy you meet on floor 9. I like the new change.
This has been cropping up a bunch, especially with the Djinn Fizz. Nicholas will be delving back into that arcane tome in which he inscribed the "Mersenne Twister" to discover where the glyphs have gone terribly wrong. (Really, I bet we can just put a hard cap on out-of-level monster spawning.)
Dangit, I was beaten by the Admin. I'm slow. Also, I've heard of a Mersenne twister before. What is it? In my opinion, on Elvish Easy, the max a monster should be out of depth is 2 levels. 3/4 for Dwarfish, and 6 for Going Rogue. Monsters already have a huge HP jump from Dwarven to Rogue, we don't need monsters that need 100 damage to kill on floor 3. All I'm saying, even ADOM is fairer than this game now. That's pretty sad and funny at the same time to be honest. Angband has monsters in vaults that can be up to 40 levels out of depth, but they're vaults. They deserve to have challenges. They also are rare. OOD monsters in this game should not be the equivelent of fighting Emperor Molochs in ADOM in the first floor of the village Dungeon.
