The dice/RNG gods are a fickle and often cruel bunch. My latest string of encounters since patch 1.0.10 have been particularly strange. On one run, i fought my way through the first two floors with nothing better than an aluminum pipe.

That run didn't last long, but the gods couldn't stay angry forever. BEHOLD! Exhibit A!

    I'm RICH!!!
Seriously though, certain items seem to recur at an alarming rate on the lower floors. I must have sold at least 5 or 6 staffs of Godewijn.

Anyone else have any thoughts on or interesting stories about the RNG in DoD?

I dont think there is too much wrong with the item spawn rate. What is a tad annoying is that I can never seem to get a trap disarmed in 2 tries though. With 45% to disarm a trap, I always either get it disarmed at once or after at least 5 tries, most often much more than that. Its a little wierd to the point where I suspect something may be wrong with either the chances or the RNG but hey - thats part of the charm right?....

    right?

So that's why I've never seen a Crownstar. Somebody's RNG has been stealing them...

Well, I'll find one of the things sooner or later.

Oh yeah, what is a crown star btw? I never saw them even once and I have over 100 hours clocked and have beaten the game at least a few times

It's an amulet with an Artifact Quality around 25 and random stats. And a base value of something like 1 million Zorkmoids.

Re: the staffs of Godjewin, it's not so much a matter with the RNG, I think, that it is with the fact that there are very few level 10+ equipment as opposed to that on lower levels, making them surface at an increased rate. I've tried to fix that with mods, but there still just isn't enough variety to see the spread you usually get on higher dungeon levels.

You have too much crownstary stuff. Is it in ROTDG or is it in vanilla too?

But yeah, I tend to see a lot of weird stuff on the later floors. In one game almost every artifact I got was a sword with tons of toxic damage.

If you haven't sacrificed anything for the RNG gods, don't expect them to be nice to you.

I figured it was something to do with that, level 20 item drops being only newly added in all.

    In somewhat related news. http://imgur.com/GH6Xe

Bloody, battered, victorious. Bulwark the brave retired to a quiet life topside in a nice little country which he purchased. Until Brax came to ask about certain missing goods anyhow. "Just couldn't leave the last two behind, could you?"

Edit: My first GRPD victory. It will probably be a while before I repeat the feat

And those were just the ones I found in shops. Darn things is everywhere, at least once you hit Floor 13 or so.

OT: yeah, people say Krong is a fickle god, but he's got nothing on the Random Number God.

Yeah, the number of Godewijn staffs I found far outstripped the Crownstars. I kept the jewels mostly for hilarity's sake and of course my instinctive greed. Sadly, after selling the first Crownstar I acquired, I found little worth purchasing aside from a second Mirror Darkly Shield, which I gladly would have paid ten times the 60k I spent for it.

Random Number God isn't fickle, he just has a very peculiar way of saying that he wants more virgins.

But yeah, I do agree that RNG is behaving weirdly at times. It's to be expected, though - there aren't as many high-level items as low-level ones, so even a slight stutter of RNG leaves you with multiple copies of the same thing.
