I played a character for like seven hours and when I restarted steam and loaded the game again the save files from the past two characters I've created are gone. GONE! I'm guessing it has to do with file sync because my older saves are there, but the more recent ones are not. Is there any way to get the saves back? That is a major bummer losing all that progress. I don't know if I should even bother to play more if my saves are just going to get deleted every time I exit steam. How do I fix this? Thanks.
This sounds like the same problem that has been reported in a couple of other threads. What seems to be happening is when the game is started from Steam, it loads whatever saves you have in the cloud, deleting or reverting whatever you have in your local files. It does this regardless of whether you have steam cloud sync turned on or not. You probably cannot get your lost saves back. For the future, you can run the game directly (not through Steam), and it will not sync and destroy your saves. If you would rather play through Steam (perhaps for the achievements), make sure the cloud sync is on, and completes successfully when you quit the game. If the sync fails, back up your saves; you can restore them next session after the game syncs to the out-of-date saves in the cloud (when it reaches the main menu).
Thanks. yeah, I figured they were probably gone. Not in the documents folder or the steam cloud save folder. Already started a new game. I will just copy the whole dredmor folder in my documents to another location before I quit the game. Just to be sure I don't lose progress again.
Yeah, I've been having this problem lately as well. I'm not asking for a fix (since I can just play w/o steam I suppose) but does anyone know if this is an issue that's being (or will be) worked on at some point? I'd rather not run the same floor multiple times, and I can just do achievement plays for the minor stuff.
