What if players could smelt/salvage junk armor and weapons for ingots/etc? Yield of salvage determined by relevant crafting level.
I've been vaguely pondering writing a mod that allowed you to use an Ingot Press to turn weapons/armor into single ingots of their relevant type, but for some reason writing crafting mods just seems like a whole lot of grinding for not a lot of reward. But I love the idea, and I'd love to see someone else do it.
I've mentioned this several times myself. Usually I'm asked, "but what would you do with them?" Has any ever considered the possibility that I just want to build a little fort of iron ingots?
hmmm....I've also been thinking of this. I will take it unto myself to add some reverse crafting into my item mod shop!
Great idea, maybe some new craftables could be added with really high metal costs so you have something to aim for, and another reason to smelt stuff rather than turn it into Lutefisks once you have enough metal.. they should probably be high tier throwables with perhaps another rare item added to make them on par with the rarer bolts since several people have mentioned that most of the throwables aren't as good as bolts.
Honestly, my "aim" is to be able to craft a level-appropriate weapon AND level-appropriate armor AND have a little bit left over for ammunition. But I realize I'm in the vast minority of stupid people who want to play Smith Tinks.
Pity we cant add another crafting item (a Discombobulator ) to keep all those recipies in a seperate location for breaking down into components because I can see the current crafts getting quite cluttered with them otherwise.
Currently working on a bunch of recipes to discombobulate traps. It's too bad you can't make grinder into tinkering skill dependent. Would make sense, the higher level your ability is, the more parts you can salvage from traps or other devices, and same for Smithing, the higher your skill, the more base metal you can salvage from a weapon or armor after smelting it. As for what the metal can be used for. I've found myself constantly running out of Hand Grenades and other explosives late game, this would be helpful (black powder on the other hand, I've never run out).
Actually I'm doing it, along with Megacrafts and Clockwork Knights. I already have four pieces of Clockwork gear and I'm having a LOT of fun. Of course, it's being very slow, but I'm ignoring almost everything that's not for crafting or survability and it's going pretty well. I like challenges XD
