Hello there - I just picked up Dredmor v1.0.7 from the Humble Introversion Bundle, and it looks to be quite fun. I'm playing on Linux x86_64 (on Fedora 15) and at first glance it's running fine. I did notice some pretty big problems with the tutorials, though - the character you have in the tutorials doesn't appear to actually have the proper attributes, and a few of the tutorials are unfinishable because of it. Most specifically: on both "Magic" and "Buffs," the character doesn't have enough MP to actually cast any of the spells. The character's only got seven MP. In "Alchemy" and "Tinkering", any attempt to actually use the crafting/alchemy items results in "Not yet crafty enough." I found a similar note in the "1.0.7 Beta Bug" thread, here: http://community.gaslampgames.com/threads/1-0-7-beta-bug-thread.1245/page-3#post-11116 As mentioned there, there was also one of the tutorial levels where the enemy was able to kill me with a single blow. Even the first couple of tutorials are difficult, actually - the enemies are able to inflict more damage than I can, so the only way I can typically beat those is by running around to wait for my HP to accumulate before battling again. Oh, and this probably affects the tutorial where you start out with a mace which is supposed to be unfit for your character... There was never any icon to indicate that I was unskilled in the mace, and judging from the stats on the character sheet, the character being used by the tutorial would actually benefit from using the mace far more than the wooden sword. (Possibly relatedly: is the tutorial character supposed to have seven or eight wooden swords in his inventory?)
Yeah, we made some game play changes between 1.0.6 and 1.0.7 that did not get reflected in the tutorial. This is the problem with having beta testers who never play the tutorial.
I experienced the same issues, and now when I tried to start my first real game... it would not save. It never offered me the chance to save... instead it asked if I wanted to Exit the Tutorial. So I did, and lost 3 hours of gaming So started a Tutorial, and finished it (thinking that might reset the flag). Then I tried starting a new character, and now the "Tutorial Complete" dialog keeps popping up AFTER EVERY SINGLE MOVE. Where is the data stored on a Windows 7 machine? I would like to delete everything and try to start over.
Just closing the application and restarting it without playing any tutorials should fix the issue. That said: Documents\Your Name\Gaslamp Games\Dungeons of Dredmor
Just an additional note: The same bug holds for all the tutorials starting at 'Magic'. The character either does not have enough magic skill, or later enough craftiness. Stars are awarded even when exiting an unfinished tutorial. Also, in the Crossbow tutorial if you put the bolts in your inventory, then go pick up the crossbow, the tutorial stall - no message appears instructing you to place the bolts in your belt and equip them. Cheers.
I had decided to give up on tutorials when this happened. Starting my first game I chose to use the beginning wand skill at a certain point on a fire wand... The game then told me to kill a diggle with it... I killed the diggle.... and it said "Tutorial over" and ended my game :/ So apparently the tutorial code can be read in the actual game and certain triggers will set it off
So, I'm curious, are there any plans to fix or turn off the tutorials for next release ? I think at least the first of the list are very handy and helps a lot to understand the interface and mechanisms of the game.
