I usually start DOD without Steam (on this laptop, Steam does weird things sometimes). Now I started Steam to patch up DOD. After closing the window, my savegames from out-of-Steam session do not appear in the saved game list. And I had one of my best characters so far there... Is it lost forever now ?
It happened to me, too (on a GRPD Random Roll literally two/three tiles from Dredmor). From what I know you can't get those characters back unless you backed up their saves (if possible). It's as if they never existed.
Pretty much... Lesson for the future, make backup copies before running Steam if you usually play DoD without it; Steam Cloud will relentlessly rape all your saves if you do not take that precaution.
I learned (too late) about editing My Documents\Gaslamp Games\Dungeons of Dredmor\config.xml to turn off enableCloud. Say, didn't Gaslamp roll their own Cloud support because they thought the Client's generic one had problems? Cause I don't think they thought through all the special cases. Such as checking if Cloud is entirely disabled in the Client.
