Bought this awesome game last week and only put 11 hours into it so far. It's overwhelming to learn everything, but at the same time it's satisfying. Learning what the stat symbols are, how armour/weapons work, what potions/items do and the skills. One question I have is, should I learn the game without mods, or should I dive straight into mods. A concern I have is relearning the things a mod changes.

I'm interested in two mods right now:
Thanks from a newbie player :)

  2. I'd recommend getting familiar with the game first before using THOSE mods, but you should feel free to use mods that add new skills and such, as they don't change any existing features or skills.

What kind of build are you looking for with your dungeoneer?

Thanks for the quick reply. Right now I'm trying a purely Melee character. My skill choices could have been better, but you can't learn without experimenting first. I think the skills I took were: Dual Wielding/Swords/Perception/Archaeology/Master of Arms/Artful Dodger and Berserker Rage. I've made it to the fifth floor so far, on the Dwavish Moderation skill.

  4. If you're going pure melee, I STRONGLY recommend using mods. Melee combat is rather underpowered in the vanilla game, and there are plenty of mods available that are specifically designed to provide some abilities that are essential in a warrior build.

Bushido, from Essence's Essential DoD I, is a survival-based skill tree for warriors, which provides healing (at the cost of temporarily becoming pretty much catatonic), as well as many lovely abilities that activate when you're hit, which help to improve your ability to survive in the endgame without being overpowered.

SwiftStriker, my mod, grants some teleportation abilities, along with an ability to nerf your own vision range temporarily in exchange for making it impossible for one target to critical or counterattack until you get your full vision back. It also has, at the last level, a VERY powerful skill called Jump, which does damage directly based on your melee attack power, but multiplied by 3. To get the best out of it, berserker rage's final skill helps, but that's no longer absolutely necessary to make Jump good (since my last update).

There are plenty of other warrior mods that help. I highly recommend downloading at least one for your warrior build :)

Okay, I 'installed' both Essential DoD skills and your mod. This is one thing about the game that appeals to me, so many skills to mix and match so each playthrough will be different. Again, thanks for the quick replies.

  6. No problem! I'd suggest keeping an eye on the swiftstriker thread though, I'm working on an update :)
