Okay, I'm not sure what that subject has to do with this post, but I'm going to do something I haven't done in a while and actually write extensively about the game for a little while. So here's a let's play! With the core weapon rebalances working they're way into the game I thought I'd go out and snag a copy of them and revive RaustBlackDragon's most excellent Omnidisciplinary Warrior build and take it for a spin. Aw Yeah. I believe strongly in the thrill of exploration, so I didn't actually look at what exactly the rebalances did here, so I'll start by saying that if you want to do this I'm not sure Unarmed is a good choice here. You might want to look into Dual Wield instead. All cooldown abilities and stances now require you to actually have the correct weapon equipped to be used. (Crazy, right?) So you're not going to have tons of activated abilities to spam (although you do get Unarmed activated abilities all of the time, probably for arcane coding reasons.) Dual Wield thus lets you maximize your activated abilities at any given time. It also does good things for damage, although with off hand bonuses halved it's not quite what it was before. I name my character OmniD (to avoid confusion with that other Omni) and hit generate. OmniD spawns looking something like this: There's enough back-up weapons in his backpack to put Brax out of business. I take a little time juggling them around until I finally settle on the Pitchfork simply because it does three damage compared to two with all the others. By the end of DL 1 I find a Nailboard and start using that. The middle of DL 2 finds me wielding a Brutal Club and with enough skill points to be For those of you wondering, it looks like this: 47 and less than 10 of it comes from equipment. Even with two stances combining to give me -10 I have 6 on level 9. That's not bad, and the 35 and 31 are pretty sweet too. Only 2 kinda hurts, but hopefully I'll find a better shield and armor soon. Also, I need more EDR. I'll let you know if this crazy guy can make it past DL 3! In the mean time, enjoy cooking your own crazy build with the new warrior skills!
Nice! This is totally awesome! For the record, while Unarmed's activated abilities will work with a weapon in your hand, all of the stat bonuses Unarmed provides (+2 per level) do not, so there's a pretty strong reason to leave Unarmed alone and go just Dual Wield +2 weapons.
Unfortunately OmniD met a gruesome end waist deep in the DL 3 monster zoo. I just didn't have the utility or items to drag myself out of it once I got roped in, and I couldn't do enough damage fast enough to keep all the beasties off of me. Definitely would want Dual Wielding over Unarmed in such future builds, if for no other reason than to get a second activated ability to increase damage output and options. In the mean time, I'm playing with Deadshot, Unarmed, Thrown and Crossbowery. It's pretty nifty, too!
I really rather like Deadshot + Perception + Thrown + Unarmed + Smithing. Add in a couple of other random utility skills (Burgalary + Communism has been my goto lately), but that core set gives you everything you need to nZappa Zapp yourself to pieces, the huge visual range to do it from, nasty effects to attach to it, and massive from all the boosts that Unarmed and Smithing give you.
I really like the new weapon system for this: you get tons of things to play with, and it could be a real challenge for warrior builds to juggle between weapons.
Yeah, it's pretty cool. But there are limts to the synergy between the weapons. All seven skills is clearly past that limit, IMO. On the other hand, three or four weapon skills in one character has a lot of potential. Fewer of your levels will be just archetype stats when you have the wrong weapon equipped, and hopefully the powerful stances can make up for that.
