I recently was playing the game with a whole bunch of mods. One of the items I got were these gloves that were so good that they'd have to be considered cheat items -- they create throwing daggers in your inventory whenever you throw anything. Thrown weapons are awesome if you have a melee build -- I didn't realize just how awesome until I got these gloves lol. I was killing some bosses in 2 to 4 hits, one-shotting many of the normal critters, and I would never run out. In my last run, I happened to also have the thrown weapons skill, and I was knocking creatures back on top of that. The one thing that keeps thrown weapons from being OP is that if you use them so often, you run out. This really eliiminates that weakness entirely. Even with the 4 damage rating (think 3 pierce, 1 slice or vice versa) that they have, it was absurd. And also, I was turning those throwing daggers into lutefisk at a crazy pace. I just wanted to know so that whoever created them might want to tone them down a bit, or label it as a cheat mod.
What was its original name? Or did it come pre enchanted? If you have the name, you could use the windows explorer to search for it in the mods folder.
I got frustrated with that game when I had a crash and I ended up accidentally loading in an old save (not sure how that happened) which was like 3 dungeon levels earlier. So I ended up totally quitting without saving it. I don't think I still have the saved game now because of that. It's not an artifact -- I've gotten it a couple of times before. I think it's something like gloves of infinite daggers or gloves of endless knives or something really obvious like that. The only stats on it were 5 to enemy dodge reduction.
How does that work anyway? I've yet to find a coherent explanation of how thrown weapons differ from fired weapons.
Thrown => bonus damage from Melee Power Fired => no bonus damage from Melee Power Melee build => a lot of Melee Power I don't think it can get any more "coherent" without slipping into the "explain it as if you were talking to an idiot" territory.
But is it Only Melee Power? Or does it use the whole Melee Attack line? The Character Screen and its Tooltips are ambiguous on this issue.
It's specifically Melee Power (at least that's backed up by the wiki, though I know that's not without its errors). Of course if you have rings or gloves or other non-weapon items that add damage, they will affect both thrown and crossbow attacks. But it's specifically the melee power that makes thrown weapons specifically attractive to a melee character. But that's not the only advantage -- certain thrown weapons will ignore all intervening squares. Not all thrown weapons, but some, such as throwing knives. I'm not sure if that's intended or a bug. I do know that some spells behave that way as well, and those are certainly intentional. I've yet to see a crossbow bolt ignore intervening terrain and/or creatures. Of course, Crossbow bolts have the advantage of adding damage based on the crossbow, which is good if you have a really good crossbow. Even as a melee character, as you get deep into the dungeon, it's silly to try to melee bosses if you can take them out before they get within melee range. Some of them are going to be quite nasty, will counter your attacks on occasion, can easily hit for a large percentage of your hp, occasionally will cause corruption, and so on. I've tried to explain that to people who insist that they have to melee everything. Sometimes that argument is a lost cause though (some people are just stubborn). Imagine how boring the game would be if you were able to always use the same exact tactics against every enemy.
Do a search on itemdb.xml for the item within all your mod folders until you find it. If you want, we could go over ways of tweaking the code if you felt so inclined.
I can't find any mods on my hard drive -- there's several Itemdb.xml files, but none associated with mods (so far as I can tell).
It'll be in My Documents\Documents\Gaslamp Games\Dungeons of Dredmor\Mods (And not in C:\Program Files\{etc. etc. etc.}\Dungeons of Dredmor) If you downloaded the mods through steam they'll be in a subfolder of the mods folder named "Subscribed. Each mod will appear as a file with a gibberish name. To access the actual mod files, download Bulk Extension Changer, use it to change all the file extensions in the "Subscribed" folder to ".zip" (as they're all actually zip files with a bullshit extension instead of the proper .zip extension), then open the zip files go digging through them to find the file you need. When you're done, use Bulk Extension Changer to change the extensions back to whatever they were before.
At any rate, the mod you're looking for may be FaxPax. I went through the mods I have installed and found an item called "Gloves of Infinite Daggers" in FaxPax.
