It's from ID, and iirc he removed the lever's functionality for some reason and something or other and ??? boom.
I think it was breaking in a bad way. I recall reading about this, but I do not recall the details of it. I suspect it will be added again once the bugs are worked out/around.
Okay, well, in the meantime, the lever on THIS side of the lava teleports me to that lever. If I hadn't known about the breakable wall it'd've stranded me.
I had that one as well and was stuck, only that pulling the lever spawned some Constructs. I gained like 2 levels from killing them, hoping it would end at some point and teleport me back. Luckily, there was a stair down on that island.
Yeah, I just ran into this room. Lever on the left side of the lava set you to the right side, lever on the right side spawned between 2-6 Unfriendly AI (one was always colored differently than the standard). Usually 1-2 came from the little room just north of the right lever, and the rest came from around a corner past the door leading to the right lever (which was too the right of the right lever). I also farmed this for almost a whole level. It was kinda fun (summoned LARGE groups by flicking the right switch MANY times in a row).
It was working once upon a time. Probably got borked in the great double-wall double-double-migration. That was (and continues to be) a giant double-double-nightmare. If it's broken, it must have been broken since May 3rd. *sigh* Could have sworn it was working locally just a couple days ago, but maybe I only went one direction, or maybe I was using ID2.0. I'll double-check ID 1.2.6.2.31415967890210, and then probably break save-games all over again. Hooray. Grr. Stupid Steam. Both levers are supposed to teleport you and create monsters. IIRC, one of them creates more monsters than the other, and one of them teleports you to a less convenient place to be surrounded.... but there's another very similar room much deeper that I could be confusing that with since it's been so long since I've done anything with the teleport/spawn scripts. My guess would be that one of the levers didn't get it's teleport target coordinates updated when the whole room shifted south 1 tile for double-walling. It's supposed to be that you can farm it for xp, but at the risk of not knowing what situation you're going to be teleported into. If you've got plenty of and , it's a cakewalk, and until I downloaded a particular mod recently, I thought that combo of resists was rare enough on floor 3 to not worry about. Plus, back when I designed the room, it was pre-NTTG, so it was designed to take twice as many kills to level-up. I also was clearly under-estimating people's desire to grind and farm... like that post about the thousands of lock-picks. I may have to do something about all this. If the teleport was working as intended, would the farming be problematic? Personally, I've never had the desire to pull more than about 3/4 of a level out of it. Unfriendly AI are 35 xp each, IIRC, or 70 on NTTG. You're at least 6th level by the time you get to floor 3, so you need 2,000 xp to get to level 7. That's a minimum of 29 kills to get a complete level out of it, 69 kills to get two complete levels, and 120 to get three levels. That's assuming you weren't very thorough on floors 1 to 2 and got to floor 3 a little light on xp. More frequently, I'm level 8-ish by the time I run into that room, so about 50 monsters to get a whole level.
Yeah, I didn't stick around for more than about 3/4ths a level. I was more having fun making giant waves of robuts and killing them then farming exp...
Yeah, I know - I'm out now. But I didn't have anything to break walls on me, so I ended up farming robots for a while until I could get a skill to get me out.
I'm so sorry. I will get this fixed as soon as I'm no longer so sick. My head is really foggy from illness right now, and if I try to adjust the code in this state I'll probably just break something else.
Worry only about getting well. A character in a video game can wait. The save will still be there when you are back in force and modding like a crazy person.
