That's probably the autosave. On less powerful machines the game stalls shortly to autosave every 5 minutes.
Would have preferred a bit more describing the events but I know it's hard when nothing of note happens. I'll pick up the save and play it tomorrow.
I support this idea. When there's a sufficient number of skills described I'll consider putting it up as a sticky for everyone, too.

I can't reproduce this, when I uncurse my hp goes back to normal. Do you have a step by step?
