This issue only seems to affect the linux version of the game. On windows, the cone is calculated such that the player is excluded from it. Hard to say which version is bugged and which version isn't (with regard to what cone was originally meant to do), but I have it from Ruigi that the way it works on Windows is the intended way it is supposed to work for Acidical Projector on Rogue Scientist.
