    No discussion here about the new Blog Post?

    The game looks very Beta Playable now! Everyone Loves Resource Gathering/Hoarding. Are there buildings allocated simply for storing things? Are there modules that increase Storage Abilities? (Leech vat for well... Leeches, And 'Radiated Leech Vat' for well... super effective leeches that convey super effective treatments)

    As for the resource system being in place, here is to hoping that the dependencies are such that it is dynamic enough to support different approaches each time you play. If you have to get X amount of Wood and Y amount of stone before getting Z amount of Ore 1 every single playthrough, then that stinks. Dynamism would also allow more variance in the map resources if you could work around the fact that there was a scarcity of something such as Hematite.

  8. Also it great to see Clockwork Empires coming together, its looking more and more complete by the day, I remember back when it was announced and there was just concept art and some character models. Its come a long way since then.

    I have some... suggestions I suppose. Well, why is Novyrus called NovYrus? You see, every noun in Russian has its own grammatical gender, which affects the endings of adjectives related to that noun. " Rus' " is a name of country and its gender is female, so the word "Novy" ("New" in English) doesn't fit because its gender is male. So it's more grammatically correct to spell it like "Novaya Rus" and then to knock it into one word with a help of binding vowel "o" - "Novorus". Yeah, Russian is pretty complicated.

    Also I advice to change that black-yellow-white flag (so called "Imperial flag" or "Heraldic/Armorial flag") of Novyrus you used in that "Power of names" sketch (or at least stick a cog on it). Nowadays it's mostly used by different Russian nationalistic/neo-nazi organizations (1|2|3) so some players from CIS would have kinda wrong associations (like me).

    That's because "Novyrus" is a word in Novyrusian, not in Russian.

    Also, while I do agree that striving for accuracy is a good thing, sometimes it's better to get it a bit off too so that certain people—the ones who would start jumping around and shouting about how the game shows a certain country as evil or whatever else—would not be able to complain.

    Actually, thank you for the suggestions. These will be taken into consideration!

    (Russian is a bit harder for me -- we have close access to people who know German & French, but less so the Russian language and culture so it's easy to miss points like this.)

    Well, that was to be expected. I mean, honestly, you do have a point and if we want accuracy then changing it is better; it's just that this particular reply was too precious not to give it.

    Mind you, I do get your point. Sometimes I have problems of this sort when writing stuff; translate or not translate and say it's in the other language, whichever option you choose there are going to be people saying it's better that way but there are also going to be people saying the other choice would have been better. And me ... I'm fine with both, I guess; it is better to see it translated but I encountered enough stuff that was really untranslatable to learn not to mind some words being left as-is.

    If you have problems with it, why not post bits that are supposed to be in Russian/Nowyrusian/whatever here, on the forum? Unless you are afraid of stuff leaking, that is, but seeing as there is a nice conversation system here and Wayfinder (and possibly some other people, but he is the visible one) seems to be very eager to be of help there, I say it's something to think about.

    Well, that is true. Then again, I think that people here would be happy if you decided to rely on us instead; you probably know that already, but there's a certain sort of pride to be felt from being able to help with something, no matter how small it is, with a project of this sort.

    ...Consuming such should make other colonists lose sanity, with the effect magnified the less sane the "flesh donor" was, because after all, you are what you eat.

    You’ve also mentioned that you need to read more about patronyms. Basically, I don’t think you really need to use them, because in Russian culture patronyms aren’t that common in a conversation.

    So, every Russian has 3 names: name, patronym, surname (Ivan Vasilievich Gavrilov, for example). Usually patronyms are created by attaching suffix –ovich or –evich to your father’s name (Petrovich, Andreevich). Name and surname are used most commonly.

    Generally patronym is used ONLY in conjunction with smb’s name to show you respect his authoritah him/her. For instance, when you’re addressing smb, whose social status/age is higher than yours – your teacher, lecturer, boss, president, your gf/wife’s parents etc. Calling such kind of person only by surname or name may (more like will) be considered as rude and ill-mannered.

    So, if some Novyrussian wants to make compliment to some Novyrussian oldman, he would say smth like:

    “Boris Efimovich, your beard looks spectacular!”

    (basically, Novyrussian is a pretty funny name for me, because in Russian “new Russian (novy russkiy)” means a man who became rich during 90s in (mostly) illegal ways)

    Surnames are usually made by adding –ov, -ev, -in and sometimes -sky suffixes to your ancestor’s first name (Romanov - son of Roman) or profession (Kuznetsov - Smith), random item (Molotov - Hammer) or animal (Medvedev - Bear), geographical place (Lenin - Lena river), almost everything.

    And something about city names – usually they have –gorod/-grad (“city" and "town” in English) or –sk suffix in the end (Volgograd, Novgorod, Izhevsk, Nizhnekamsk etc.)

    For example, "Steamtown", "Machinetown" and "Cogtown" would be smth like "Parograd", "Mashinsk" and "Shesterensk" in Russian.

    ("shesternya" or "shesterenka" is "cog" in Russian - that's pretty important I suppose)

    (Hey guys, we've now got names for all the major cities of, er, Novorus!)

    Actually, to be honest, I've been unsure on the "New Rus" name for a while due to stuff like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Russia which refers to some real-life colonial domination and, ah, present-day conflicts that we don't want to invoke in our game. Likewise, I want to avoid referring to actual peoples/nationalities as much as possible, eg. the Rus or (like) "the Turks" or something, so the whole naming of the Russian-esque faction may require some more thought.

    But I do appreciate the depth of your responses here and, as you can see, they're provocative in terms of what direction we take the game in these early stages. And this is just the sort of thing that's super important so that we don't stumble upon terrible grammar or creating stuff that might be offense but we had no idea due to our cultural background coming from the US & Canada, etc.
