Hmm. Now that monsters are spawning properly, sir, are you going to be modding in any monsters? Just curious.
Absolutely. I've got one coded already for Banjo's special room, and am at the stage of drawing lots of nearly-identical graphics for the animation thereof. However, I expect all progress on that to come to a screeching halt for a few days once either HIB or Steam decide to finally give me access to 1.0.10.
Perhaps the Stop Sign Shield would work best with two warhammers, and parachute Pants. "Stop! Hammer Time."
Then Dredmorapedia needs an update. May I ask what it procs? (I threw one away recently. Time to rub some salt in that wound.) Nevermind. I found it in the current revision of the same site. That is nice. But a fair bit shy of the Clockwork Deflector I had at the time.
...Special monster? Don't change anything you're already doing on my account, but if it's a bear, you are the best.
I keep getting ambushed at shrines/lutefisk places. Is that your mod doing it, or another one? Because that's really getting old. If it is your mod, reduce the frequency, because it's way too common. If it's not your mod, um, any ideas?
When you say ambushed, what exactly do you mean? The thing where a wall explodes and there were several monsters behind it? I have seen this one time in the last dozen characters I had. If that is what you mean, have you solved the other problems you were having? It was starting to sound like your install and/or saves are *Expletive Deleted*. Either way I hope you get it sorted out.
No, I mean I approach the shrine and it gives me a message about an ambush here, and monsters spawn behind me, blocking my way out. And no, I haven't solved all my problems yet. Something is going weird still.
Next time you have such an ambush, would you kindly screenshot it so I can see? I have probably seen it, but it is certainly not often for me if I have to ask for clarification. Thanks in advance either wey.
I'm responsible for that one. I can't really do anything to lower the chances, because the room needs to be identical to the non-ambush shrines and they're already defined just once in the rooms.xml. However, if it's too much of a bother, I may very well just get rid of them altogether.
Well, they're a bit annoying, to be honest, but not amazingly difficult. I'm just kind of annoyed by how often they popped up.
You seem to be the victim of surprisingly regular RNG shenanigans, David. Either that or confirmation bias.
Well, they did pop up a few too many times in a row. But I also have pretty bad memory, so probably a bit of Confirmation bias.
You could set them to happen on just a single floor. Either: make that a sub-theme of a particular floor, so someone might get ambushed several times in shrines on that floor but never in shrines on any other floor or set a Krong ambush on floor 4, a Lutefisk ambush on floor 7, and an inconsequentia ambush on floor 10. (Rearrange numbers to taste). Ambush rooms are fun, but it's very easy to over-do them. A good part of what makes them fun is that you weren't expecting it at that particular moment. It's the surprise that make them so exciting. If it happens too often, that excitement goes away, and then it just becomes annoying. Each individual ambush room should probably only happen once or twice total per game, and ideally not consecutively. In order to maximize surprise, you want the player to forget that it's a possibility because they haven't seen one in 2 or 3 floors.
Hooray, I made my chief competitor's product better! Hopefully that fulfills my "self-destructive altruism" quota for the week.
Good to hear that. I'm sure I'll agree whole-heartedly once the 1.0.10 is widely available and people using Macs (such as myself) aren't stuck using just one mod at a time. Having to choose has clearly colored my perceptions, not to mention slowed down my exploration of the wider world of DoD mods. I agree whole-heartedly! Champing at the bit for 1.0.10. The PC version is on HIB now, but still no Mac. Grrr... WOOHOO! Steam just updated. I've got 1.0.10! Now to dive in to some multi-mod goodness!
